Re: 3.6 Pentastar Oil Leak

..try "detection paper"

To find oil leaks, I put parts of a kitchen roll in various locations to isolate the source of the oil. in your case i would start below the valve cover and put some further down around the gearbox (just pinch it in some narrow gaps)
This way its pretty easy to localize the origin of the oil (vent holes in the bell housing are a good place if present as well)

Good luck

Achim

Re: 3.6 Pentastar Oil Leak

I don't know if I buy what the dealer is saying. What could it be to not be covered by warranty?

Re: 3.6 Pentastar Oil Leak

Well sounds like the vehicle is already at the dealership, but just throwing it out there, is there any chance the oil leak could be from the oil filter which as we all know is mounted to the top of the motor?
We all hear the stories of oil changes gone bad when the old filter gaskets stays then causes leaks once the new one is attached. Did you remove the engine cover and see if you can see oil from the top?

Keep us posted on what the dealership finds.

James

Re: 3.6 Pentastar Oil Leak

Did you put a 13mm socket on the drain plug and verify it was snug? You would be supprised what oil will do while driving down the road... possibly mess from an oil change (someone dropped the filter when lifting it out or something).

Re: 3.6 Pentastar Oil Leak

On our way to go pick it up. Dealer said it was covered under warranty and the problem was the rear main seal and they also replaced the oil pan gasket.
