3.6 V6 very low MPG

Hey guys,

I just purchased a 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo X in black and love everything about the truck. I however noticed the average mpg I'm getting on the display is around 11.5-12 mpg with the V6. So my question is, is this the expected fuel economy the truck actually gets around town or could something be wrong?

Try driving it around like a grandma and see if it changes

The check engine light is not on. I see a good amount of traffic on my commute to work but I know its not even close to the recommended 17-22mpg.

Ahhh okay i see the issue now. Your mpg avg comes down when your just sitting there and not moving. If you are seeing a lot of traffic that could explain it.

I have the same model, same year, Laredo X 4x4 V6 QT I.

This is not surprising if you mostly make a lot of short local trips. The engine never gets to warm up and it is nothing but stop and go. This is about what I was getting when I didn't drive to work.

I now daily commute from Brooklyn to Queens (40 miles round-trip) and get 15 MPG average. This has about 50% streets, 50% highway with traffic.

If you want to see good numbers get on the highway when there is no traffic, set cruise control at 60 MPH and drive for an couple hours. You will get 23-24 MPG average.

Re: 3.6 V6 very low MPG

Just drove my 2015 JGC Overland for 3 weeks. 12.6 city miles, Long Island local. Took a trip for 300 miles to PA, averaging 17 mpg highway. V6. Very poor fuel economy comparing to my previous V8 MB GL450 which gets 13~14 local.

At least it doesn't consume premium fuel, oh well.

This sounds pretty bad. I drive my Hemi like a race car & get better mileage! I can't wipe the smile off my face! . There is no replacement for displacement!! LOL!

Re: 3.6 V6 very low MPG

The extremely cold weather and driving locally, with stop and go traffic, have absolutely nothing to do with poor fuel economy.

That's bs all day. You also forget the poor winter fuel blends the sell in the winter. Let's also add that the vehicle losses about 7-20% of its efficiency in the winter too. Tire pressure being lower so more rolling resistance burns more fuel.

Re: 3.6 V6 very low MPG

One time I saw 19MPG this winter in after a couple of weeks of heavy Chicago street traffic. I started thinking there was something wrong with my Jeep or maybe I got bad Diesel. Next tank went back to the normal 20 to 22 MPG though. Looking back, I am pretty sure it was just a bad tank of fuel.
