30K Service: Dealer killed the ECU!

So its a regular Beautiful day in Sydney.
Birds are chirping, traffic is chaotic and the sun in shinning....

Im excited to take my beautiful Jeep Grand Cherokee into the dealer to get its 30,000KM service done.

Drop it off, they said no problems see you in a few hours.

I mention there are a few issues:
1. Media from the iPhone is not playing through the audio system, URB cable charges but does not play music, and bluetooth music doesnt work either.

2. The Map places me with the fishes in the tasmanian sea..regularly.

3. huge cracking noise from the rear suspension everytime i go over a bump at slow speed

4. clunk and thud when switching from 1st gear to 2nd, mostly at slow speed.

Ok Great Mr. G, we'll take care of it.

4:30PM, i get a call and they say, sir, we were all ready to give the car a wash and tried to open the door and the car locked itself down. we tried to open it, and diagnosed it via the ECU, it looks like the ECU is fried. the parts wont arrive for another 2 days........

are you frikkin kidding me?!!!!!!
WHAT THE SH**!!!!!

is this grounds for asking for a free service?

Dealer broke my windshield while replacing the cylinder head a while back. The most I got was a rental for the time it was in the shop. I say give it a shot.

Re: 30K Service: Dealer killed the ECU!

its been almost 2 weeks.
I took the car in for a regular service, basically an oil change and just a tyre pressure check. i was hoping to have it back before the easter break when my parents flew in to see me.

Did not get it back for easter.
Could not show my parents my new car.
Could not go away out of the city with them.
Have not heard back from the dealer, i call everyday.

This afternoon, i called the Service Managing Director for the dealership and got his PA (he was away on holiday) gave her an earful and said i will be coming in to his office to have a face to face about this situation. Instantly heard back from them this evening "it may be ready tomorrow"

they have had it since last monday.

is it fair that i ask for a free service? and 2 more free services? lol

Why would you even consider going back for more work by them No independent service shops around?

Sheeeesh...

I would assume you got a free rental during this entire time. If not, you should be compensated for not having a vehicle to use at the very least...

You can try getting the service for free or at least some sort of incentive to return such as free additional service.

If I were you, I would have gone to the dealership instead of call and make a big stink and if they didn't supply the rental or any proper reasoning that a "polite" threat to call Chrysler headquarters would be your next course of action.

Re: 30K Service: Dealer killed the ECU!

Thanks guys.

@46er - They are the dealership, the reason i have to go back there is because they are one of only 2 in the city. They offer 7 years warranty if you service the car with them exclusively.

I will hopefully pick up the truck today and thats when im gonna give them a solid verbal.

I have threatened to go to Chrysler but first to their VP and Group President and owners. They are the largest dealership here in Sydney, Australia.

I can guarantee you i refuse to pay for this service and will try to get a free next service Or i will just go elsewhere in future.

Re: 30K Service: Dealer killed the ECU!

Not the first week no, i had to go in and go off at the General Manager who then gave me a demo vehicle (Compass) for 3 days. i still have that car for now. I didnt have one for a week.

I am seriously concerned as to what they have done to the car. what could be taking so long to fix from an ECU replacement?

It was fine when i drove it in and dropped it for an oil change.

I am worried that whatever they have done will come back later and bite me.

What should i look for when i pick it up? any advice?

I am considering asking for a new Jeep even! haha
