Re: 5.7 started with cloud of smoke

I had something similar happen to my Hemi the twice within the first couple of days after delivery. Big cloud of white from the exhaust or engine bay. It hasn't happened since and I have nearly 3000 miles on the clock.

Re: 5.7 started with cloud of smoke

mine was similar duration. It freaked me out, but it seems to have been an anomaly since it hasn't happened again since. I thought maybe it was some water in the exhaust system or something like that having sat for so long while in transit from the factory.

Re: 5.7 started with cloud of smoke

Happens to me as well-
BIG cloud of exhaust when I start up then it goes away-
Will definitely happen on incline/decline but sometimes happens when flat too.
couple of times it looked blueish so I dropped it off at the dealer this weekend and they just called saying there was too much oil put in from the last oil change so they did another oil change and it should go away.

Re: 5.7 started with cloud of smoke

I've had this happen once when parked on a very steep hill (nose up) for several hours. I haven't seen it since, but I haven't parked anything but level since.

I'm fairly positive the smoke I saw was oil being burned very quickly, so it looks to me like oil is getting into a cylinder somehow -- and I don't understand how "too much oil" in the crankcase would lead to oil build-up in a cylinder while parked.

Re: 5.7 started with cloud of smoke

That is normal for a new $45k Jeep? Well I need to sell my WK and get one of the smoking Hemi engines LOL . That is not normal I would be at the dealership in a minute.

Re: 5.7 started with cloud of smoke

Well coolant burns white. Cant imagine a new car is doing that. Could be because its new and its burning off crap like carbon... similar to what Seafoam does when you pour it into a 2 stroke boat motor
