Could be the evaporator under/inside the dash...but that's what a warranty is for.

Why the previous dealer didn't check the charge is beyond me. They not only lost the opportunity to fix the problem (which I'm sure they would have made some $$ on) but their refusal to do this type of check means they lost a customer for all future maintenance work.
That really sucks for them. Honestly you should do the right thing and call them and tell them about this, word for word, just like in this post. It's upsetting they didn't even check for you and I think the manager should hear about it and would appreciate the feedback.

Re: A/C Hissing Sound and Dealer Attitude

The "take it where you bought it" logic is really quite foolish. I suggest that you ask to speak with the GM (General Manager) or the owner. They'll almost certainly want to hear your story. Your conversation might go something like this: How much did your Dealership spend last year on Service and Parts Department advertizing trying to attract new Customers? . . . . and how manny new customers did you get? This is a rhetorical question, but using a little Farmer math that would mean that each new customer for your Service and Parts business cost your Dealership how much money? (FYI it's usually $200 - $400 for each new Service an Parts customer by industry standards.) Are you aware that your Service Manager is working against your efforts? I came here at absolutely no cost to your Dealership, and he/she just told me to go to your competitor. In my familly there are X number of cars. I or one of the other folks in my family or my circle of friends might have even bought their next new car here . . . . had I been favoribly impressed with the Service and Parts I received. But after this incident, I am certain that I will NOT get my vehicle serviced here EVER; and I will definitely NOT buy a vehicle here. Who wants to have thier vehcile worked on by a bunch of low life cretins who don't appreciate the business I can give you?

Re: A/C Hissing Sound and Dealer Attitude

Sent a note off to the dealer the other day. I really don't care what they do or not do because I'm not taking my Jeep back to them...but hopefully they will pay attention. My main concern at this point is getting to the source of the refrigerant leak.

Re: A/C Hissing Sound and Dealer Attitude

Took the Jeep back to the second dealer today. They found the refrigerant leak and replaced a line, just a few hours total. Unfortunately, before I shut down after a 20 minute drive, I heard the whistling sound from the front again.

Going to drive for a while to see how reproducible this one is. We had the sound for months without a breakdown so I'm in no hurry to drag the Jeep back 40 minutes out of my way to the dealership again. I did send the service adviser a note about the problem.

Ugh.

Re: A/C Hissing Sound and Dealer Attitude

Took the Jeep to a third dealer who diagnosed the problem as a bad part in the water pump. Got that replaced and then had an AC problem a few weeks later which ended up being a small leak in the condenser. The third dealer (which I didn't buy the Jeep from) has been great so far in working through the problems which I hope are resolved for now. They are only one town over so hopefully they will be my "go to" place for a while.

Now to track down that whine at highway speeds...
