Re: About to give up on my WK2

I do admit that most cars will have some problems but the list is just way to long for me. And when the car cost 46K I think I can find something that wont have a long list of problems.
I have taken my car to a couple of dealers and so far I was offered 35k and 36k. Which I feel is a little low but I only owe 35k since I was able to get it for 42k. I think KBB has trade in at 38K and retail at 40K.

Re: About to give up on my WK2

Wow, hopefully my car does not have all of the same issues...but i have one...the service 4x4 light. I have been told it has to do with the rear elsd and the part is backordered, i have been waiting for two weeks...the light came on during limited off roading at the 600 mile mark....a bit annoying to have a fault when your car is so new...Since this time, i have also had the rear gate motor fail and have to be replaced...as things happen in 3's, i am hoping the next thing is minor...

Re: About to give up on my WK2

I get a new vehicle every two years. There hasn't been a single vehicle that's been trouble free. I've had GM's: Chevy Lumina's (2) and K5 Blazer, Pontiac Bonneville, Dodge Intrepids (3) Ford's: Explorers (2), and Escape, Toyotas: Highlanders and Rav4, Acura TL type S, Subaru Outback Limited and this will be my fourth GC. I always expect a perfect vehicle, and I'm always disappointed to some degree. Some have been better than others, but it is always the dealer that makes the difference.

Sales always does a good job selling, service is where the problems occur. My Acura was my biggest disappointment, the legendary quality was just that, a legend. The quality was poor, and so was the service, although the coffee and the amenities while waiting for them not to fix my car was top notch.

My 06 JGC had QDII problems the first week and lived at the dealer for about 3 weeks, but the dealer was great, acknowledged the problem, "sent up a flare" to Chrysler when he couldn't fix it, and put me in another JGC while the repairs were being attempted.

No Starbucks coffee, no leather in the waiting room, just courteous service. That's why I stuck with them.

Look around, there's lots of online communities, and the ones I've been to have their share of fans and those who are disappointed.

I'm lucky to have a decent dealer nearby to visit when the inevitable problems come up.

Re: About to give up on my WK2

I agree that all vehicles have problems from time to time but some vehicles have more than others. I will say that I really like this jeep and I plan on keeping mine for a long time hopefully. For the price or really any price for that matter it should not be a roll of the dice what you get. I had a bad compressor for the suspension from the factory. I had two axle shafts leaking grease had to be repalced. Had the intermediate steering shaft repalced once( waiting for another one with the green dot now). I have a rattle in the passenger seat which I have not even bothered with. The thing I hate the most about having an issue is I take it in they have to order parts and its always several days to get a part sometimes they are backordered. Then when the parts arrive I have to take it back to the dealer. I never had this in the past when any of my previous jeeps parts were almost always the next day. I know a lot of this is because its a first year model and it seems many problems are still beign worked out which is why I will never buy first year again.

Re: About to give up on my WK2

I can understand where you guys are coming from and sympathize with you, I had a computer go in my 2011 JGC at 1700 miles and had to drive to a safe spot without knowing what speed I was doing. However I think as years go on and each car model is getting more and more complex the chance of issues goes up. I was taken care of by Chrysler for my inconveniences, but when I took the shuttle to go pick up my jeep I met a few people that were getting the run around. I agree with what some of you have said, problems are going to happen, these are complex machines, but these car companies need to be there because that is part of what your paying for. Good luck in whatever car you choose next.

I think this statement pretty much nails it. After following this forum for several months, with the exception of Voice Command, I have had none of the mentioned issues, but that's the sole reason I waited for the '12's. Will there be problems later? Probably. There always are, but for now, I think Chrysler has done an outstanding job with quality control in general, and with resolving 2011 issues.

Unfortunately, your dealer plays a huge part in how you perceive your vehicle, and they are not all the same. If our dealer can't help, we should try others until we find one we are comfortable with.

Most dealers use Galves (some NADA) as a valuation not KBB or Edmunds.

Galves is typically lower than KBB.

Re: About to give up on my WK2

This is what I'm worried about as I am planning to buy my first American vehicle in many years. I could easily buy an Acura MDX and be done with it, but have fallen in love with the Jeep. I really hope I can trust this vehicle -plan to buy it within the year.

Re: About to give up on my WK2

Sometimes I think it's just down to luck.

I took my dad's old Porsche which was literally burnt alive! There was a fault in the convertible top, something to do with wiring and it caught on fire. I don't know the exact details because I was actually not in town when it happened. He then proceeded to get the Turbo 996. No issues till today. We just had some age issues recently but nothing a good maintenance and service couldn't fix. I took the old porsche instead of having it scrapped and turned it into a restoration project. I have been meaning to get some pics up of the before and after, but I'll need to get a new cable for my harddrive in order to get access to the pics.

My Pathfinder (2000, R50 model) has been a beast. It's been bashed inside out by my offroading and the only issues we've really had were due to old age and wear and tear from when I go off-roading. We kept fixing it up everytime something went wrong and kept maintaining it.

My mums old bmw (1999 728i) was faulty from day 1, and we got it brand new, not used. I don't recall it being in for fixing less than 3 times a year since we had it. I've been trying to fix it up as well to keep it alive but after 10 good years, we got rid of it and got her a Passat CC.

My dad uses a Golf 2.0 MK4 as his daily and it's been a 50/50. It worked great the first two years then we had problems for a few months then worked great for a few more years and then more problems. We have been servicing and doing maintenance regularly but sometimes it's just down to luck.

My sister's husband got her a Touareg not long ago, not the new model. I think it was a 2009. Problems from day 1. Especially with the AC unit. No matter what happened after 15-20 mins of driving the AC would go from cool to warm (unacceptable in Kuwaiti climate). Some other issues like suspension problems (which is weird cause she doesn't go offroad, she just needed a big car to haul my nephew and some stuff for work). She got rid of it and bought a used Lexus jeep (forget the model name).

The most important thing you can do is always keep your eye out from day 1. Sometimes the car will do great for the first year and then give out. That's why when we first get a new ride, we always tell the garage to check EVERYTHING even if it's a minor problem. Sometimes the minor problems lead to a bunch of other minor problems. Especially if there is something with the ECU. To my experience (could be totally wrong) when any ECU issues arise, if not dealt with straight away you'll end up with 1,000 other issues.

It's unfortunate to hear of your luck. A friend of mine has had his WK JGC and has never had a single problem. Another friend with a WK has been in and out of service. If I knew exactly what was doing all of this I'd be able to help ya out. I can only wish you the best of luck on your next purchase and hopefully you'll be trouble free.

The raptor is a great truck, haven't heard any complaints from people here in Kuwait. Don't know anyone in specific who owns a raptor. However, I regularly goto car/truck meets here and just chat with all the owners. Awesome fun and great experience. Some are more regretful of their purchases than others. I don't think it's usually down to the actual make of the car, but the year or place of assembly that may contribute. Maybe it's just the driving style, or weather. I know some people in Kuwait here leave their cars parked outdoors in the heat without shade. Some people put them in the garage and so on. I've noticed people who tend to leave their cars unshaded tend to feel the most regret after a purchase.

Wow I'm blabbering on. Anyways, that's my $0.02 and best of luck !
