Re: AC Auto mode runs HIGH all the time

When it is hotter than hell when I first get in the vehicle, I go to Climate and select Max AC. Once I feel comfortable and I am getting a little chilly, I push the Auto button and then it takes over quite well.

At any rate, if you start out when it is hotter than hell and the climate is set to Auto at say, 70, you will not get the same aggressive cooling effect that you will when you go into Climate and set it to Max AC, which among other things drops the temp setting all the way down, and also selects recirculate mode. In other words, it appears that when the climate control is in Auto mode, it will be set at 70 in this example. Furthermore, while in auto mode when starting up the vehicle on a hot day, if you set the temperature to the lowest setting, it will then be much more aggressive in cooling the vehicle.

At this point it seems clear that jeep expects the owner to select max cooling when this is required, and then you can later push the button to auto.

I hear what you are saying just seems to me that if my out side temp is reading 105 F and jeep has been sitting in the sun in the middle of an asphalt parking lot all day and the solid black interior has brought the interior temp to 150 F or whatever that maybe auto should be auto in that case and set the system for as max cooling as it is capable of. I thought that was the definition of auto not manual and then auto LOL. where is this Max AC button? I don't see anything like that

I drive a 2016 Summit. At any rate, if your touch screen is like mine, press Climate, and then in the upper left screen I see Max AC. Tap it.

Re: AC Auto mode runs HIGH all the time

it seems a little ridiculous to have to manually push the max AC button to tell the system it's 120deg inside the vehicle when it already has sensors capable of determining that. the sad thing is I had a Toyota Corolla rental that would kick on max fan speed, quickly cool down and automaticity adjust the fan to the perfect setting.

I'm not disagreeing. It is what it is, or what it seems to be. At any rate, I can certainly live with it. Evidently jeep put that Max AC option in there for a reason, no matter what their reasoning was. My first guess is that it has to do with fuel economy.

Guys making me want to keep my older wk2, My Auto works perfectly Auto Recirculates etc.

Wonder if the solar load sensor is bad or the internal temp sensor

Re: AC Auto mode runs HIGH all the time

I don't know where you guys live, but I'm in AZ and haven't had any issues. We have 100+ 100 degree days here every year and I have my ac temp set to 62 degrees. I don't use the auto feature and manually adjust fan speed. Works great, remote start is awesome!

95 degrees in the soggy super humid east coast is a huge difference from 95 in arid dry Arizona. Ac systems often struggle out here to keep up. The jeep AC system works ok, not great but not terrible. Its not one of those nice chill systems where you have a 38 degree vent temp that cools the vehicle down real quick. they under filed mine at the factory and I had the dealer recharge to where it should be so it is functioning as designed and its fine just takes a while to get things cooled down after a hot soak in the sun at 95 and high humidity. The auto feature works good at keeping temp after the initial(slow) cool down.

Re: AC Auto mode runs HIGH all the time

95 and dry would be nice. It's commonly 105-115 here in the summer months. If you've been sitting outside with the sun on it all day it still takes several minutes to cool down, but that's why I use remote start.

Re: AC Auto mode runs HIGH all the time

Could be as simple as defective Ambient Temp sensor or In Cabin Temp sensor. Dealer should be able to run diag on these devices and see if they are operating as supposed to.

Here are a list of sensors.
