AC Problems - 2011 Laredo X

Hi all,

I noticed a few days ago that I have no AC on the driver side of my WK2 Laredo X... but the passenger side blows cold. Adjusting temp on the driver side does nothing. I was thinking blend door issues... but now I've noticed the AC blower cuts in and out several times after the vehicle is started. It will run about 30 seconds... then cuts out for about 30 seconds. It eventually runs constant after cutting out 2 or 3 times.

Any ideas? Thanks much!

Possible the driver's side temperature blend door actuator (or the actuator gear) on the way out. Sounds like the system is attempting to relearn the travel limits of the door in question. If a "desirable" range of travel can't be reached, the system basically soft boots.

Yep... that's exactly it. I found an actuator gear "stop" that had broken off and fell behind the carpet to the right of the gas pedal... so that gear is "toast".

Luckily it's a $2 dealer part and there's a great tutorial posted in the forums on how to replace.

The blower motor turning on and off automatically when first started is how the WK2 alerts you to a HVAC fault.

Now just got to figure out how to remove the big plastic panel on the driver side console that hides the heater core lines. Get that off and the actuator should be behind and a little above them. Removing two T20 screws should do it.

At least the dash doesn't need pulled. My God...

A word of advice, perform the repair after the engine has had time to cool off a bit. Those heater core lines can roast your fingers.

Yes sir! Learned about that while searching for the broken gear parts

Would you know how to remove that big piece of console trim to the left of the AC controls that hides the heater core lines?

If I recall correctly, you will need to remove the lower portion of the dash below the steering column. There are 2-3 bolts facing downwards and the top has tension clips in it. I can't recall if the ductwork for the floor vent interferes with the repair or not. I will try and take a peek at mine shortly to see.
