AC sounds like water faucet turnin on and off

Behind my radio panel i get a whooshing noise very similar to someone turning on a faucet in a room down the hall where you here swooooshhhhhhh...pause...swooooooshh.

Service Tech listened called it a whistle.... i thought that was crazy but then the repair tech couldnt figure it out and they asked me to come back.

AC works through all this just started 2 weeks ago.

Re: AC sounds like water faucet turnin on and off

I remember reading something about this a while back. I think it had something to do with the A/C expansion valve. Don't quote me on that though. Try some searches here and it might come up.

Re: AC sounds like water faucet turnin on and off

Thank you,

I looked some of that up and dont think that is it. My sound is very rhythmic. More low groan...sigh... groan ..... sigh type of sound. Very constant and not related to RPMS or compressor kick in

Re: AC sounds like water faucet turnin on and off

Would you say it also kind of sounds like Darth Vader breathing? If so I have the same noise on my 2014.

I had the AC fan on low last night and heard the noise again, remembered this thread, and realized it did sound like a water faucet (from far off) being turned on and off. Not actual water falling into a sink, but rather the water flowing through a water pipe.

I am having he exact same issue on my 2013 JGC with 5k miles on it.... to me it sounded like someone sucking air through a straw.... then getting down to the end of your drink and sucking that last bit of drink and air at the bottom... WHAT IS THIS?! it didnt start till recently and it seems to be getting louder. I think it may get louder as you step on the gas too? Im not sure though...

If you hear it the most at low RPMs usually a sign the refrigerant is low... Had my Durango fixed for the same issue, gradually get worse, you will loose A/C performance at low RPMS eventually as well.

That wouldn't surprise me. When temps are in the mid 80s and below the AC works pretty well, but a few weeks ago when it was in the 90s it would take a while for things to get cool.

Jeepers and Racer ... Yes the vader or sucking straw sound.

I take it back in Friday or Monday

On the RPMs i dont really notice. And I am in Phoenix so AC is always working even at 7am

Oh wait, on "low RPMs" do you mean low RPMs of the engine or of the AC fan?

Lower Engine RPMs (Compressor is not turning as fast)

Re: AC sounds like water faucet turnin on and off

F.y.i everyone I just left the Jeep dealership it turns out that that noise I'm getting which I referred to as someone sucking air through a straw and slurping the last bit of a drink is actually a bad expansion valve

Re: AC sounds like water faucet turnin on and off

After 4 more hours yesterday they recharged the system added dye (to see if they could find a leak) and said, "problem fixed" then tried to charge me and not cover it under warranty. Which led to more of a nasty conversation regarding service than what went wrong and why would the system be down on charge at 31k miles ..... and then what or who is responsible if it does it again at 36001 miles.
