I am at the dealer now, but I don't want to overwhelm them.

I've got a feeling that a self fix will be alot less headache vs a trip to the dealer. Pending of course there might be a physical defect in the vent. Trying to get caught up at work so I can dive into the vent repair.

Re: AC Vent moving on its own

Ok, so I finally got around to taking a peek at the vents. Removed center bezel to gain access to the rear of the vents. Upon inspecting, there are 4 small "cams" on both top and bottom. On the top, there are tabs which can be pryed up in the event you need to remove the "vane assembly" from the vent itself. I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary so I decided to make a very small plastic shim to insert into the tab to create just a bit more downward pressure on the vanes.

Still unsure if it was possibly a manufacturer defect, or premature wear, but either way, the shim fixed it. Liked it so much, I shimmed the opposite vent as well. It definately won't move unless you physically move it (or drive through a F4 tornado with the windows down). Contemplating removing the vanes and using a heatgun to mold the tabs in question downward a bit so no shim will be necessary.

I did not take any pictures, but can snag a few if need be. Once you get the center bezel removed from the dash (quick pull at the bottom), the vents are pretty self explanatory in how they move.

This is so funny....
I have the same issues with the vent and the mirror. There is no way I am letting any Jeep garage touch this. I just re-adjust each every few hours.

Re: AC Vent moving on its own

THanks for your help all. I'm still debating if I'm going to chance marring up the plastic trying to fix it or just stick something in there.

Re: AC Vent moving on its own

If you open the center compartment and then give the bottom of the center bezel a quick pull, the bottom will release. NO tools needed. Next, simply work your way around untill the bezel is seperated from the dash. Unplug a few connectors, and you're ready to handle business.
