Acceptable Oil Pressure Range

I did my first oil change on my '14 V6 using the new MO-349 Mopar Filter and Mobil-1 5w20. All went well with no leaks, but from a cold start, oil pressure fluctuates with speed between 75 and 90 psi. After a few miles, with oil temp at 165 degrees (F), pressure settles down to 40-45 psi at 2,500 rpm.

Does anyone know if this is normal? 75-90 psi seems awfully high to me.

Yup mine does that exactly. Stays high when oil warms and once it hits 160+ the pressure drops significantly.

Thanks, that eases my mind.

Re: Acceptable Oil Pressure Range

It is designed that way with a two stage oil pump that lowers the pressure once warmed up. Will go max again once over 3500 rpm. May add .005 mpg. Old engineer who should know told me that all you really need is 10 psi/1000 rpm and that was for racing.

Re: Acceptable Oil Pressure Range

I read somewhere that the oil pump has two modes depending on temp.

Re: Acceptable Oil Pressure Range

I see the same thing on mine. Originally thought 35PSI seemed awfully low once warmed, but reading this forum taught me about the dual pressure oil pump. Mine does read 70-90psi until warmed. When it is 15 below out, the oil never warms above 150 degrees.
