I agree, and I actually asked for $150. I feared that any higher and it would look like I was trying to take advantage of them. Based on some prices listed on local detailer websites, I think $150 will probably cover it, if not completely, then enough to the point where I'm satisfied.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

You're not unreasonable, the dealer is being an untrustworthy Dick.

I had a paint issue on my rear deck handle and my salesman, Dennis, said no problem they'd fix it for me later. Dennis called me periodically after the sale to ask me how things were going; the first time I'd ever had a salesman do that. Not one time did we discuss the paint issue in any of those phone calls.

I took the car in several months after the sale and reminded the service manager of the prior promise. He made a quick call to the sales floor to confirm, and that was it: promise kept. A few minutes later Dennis came over and we had a cup of coffee and shot the breeze for a while.

For $150 it's not worth the aggravation. With folks like you're dealing with you're likely to piss some guy off and he's going to do some damage to your new car just to spite you. Take to your detailer that you can trust.

Then find another dealer for your service and for your next Jeep.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

I think you are handling this well Jeeper. If the dealer is not meeting your requests when it comes to fixing the issues on a brand new vehicle, I would next escalate it to the owner. You have given them 2 times to fix the issue and a bad touchup paint job wouldn't cut it for me. Did they even put sealant or wax it after they did that? If not, you might as well done the touchup paint job yourself.

We are glad your still alive and loving your Jeep, when you have it atleast. Hopefully everything gets worked out and the issues get fixed.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

Pictures are worth a thousand words. You are not being unreasonable. If the scratches are deep enough to need touch up paint, that car needs to go to a body shop. The scuffs should polish out, but the car wash guy isn't qualified.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

Well, since you asked for advice, here's my view. Life is too short to continually stress yourself over something which can be resolved. Always use a person who knows what they're doing to get something done right. The dealership's detailer does not appear to be a person who can do this to your satisfaction. Taking the car to someone you trust and paying them to do the job correctly will get this fixed. Yes, you'll be out the money, but it will be over and done with. (Sometimes its just worth it to pay for peace of mind.) If you keep screwing around with the dealer, one day you'll say to yourself "I should have just taken it to my guy in the first place. I would have gladly paid to get this taken care off than to continue to screw around with the dealer."

Just one person's opinion. Maybe it helps you, maybe not. But, I tried. I hope you get this taken care of so that when you walk out in the morning you're happy with how the Jeep looks.

PS. I don't know that it makes a difference whether you're being reasonable or not; it sounds like the dealership detailer is not able to get you what you want.

I totally agree with you, and in fact I actually originally was just going to pay to have it done myself because, honestly, given the general reputation of dealers, I knew this wasn't a remote possibility. But my feeling was, why spend another $150 to fix problems on a brand new car, when the dealer promised multiple times that they'd have it all fixed for me for free? I should at least give them an opportunity.

But at this point I wouldn't feel comfortable letting the dealership get away with a lie without me at least putting up a fight.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

If I had to pay for it myself, I'd let it slide. If it came from the dealer this way, I'd be busting some balls. You should have gotten a "we owe" from them though. Not sure what recourse you've got otherwise.

I've only been mistreated by a dealership once in the last 40 years like you have been with this problem. There weren't dealer satisfaction surveys in those days, so I couldn't pass on that extreme displeasure to the corporate guys, but I hope you will. The condition of your beautiful new vehicle is a shame, but a good detailer can make it right. I hope you get it fixed properly, and put this bad experience behind you, and enjoy your new ride!

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

I have two small flaws in paint(looks like small grains of sand in paint and under clearcoat) E mailed salesman second day about them, he said "no problem, we'll take care of it". I'm not even sure they are repairable without repainting whole panel(not gonna do that, I'll just live with them)

I specifically told the dealer "hands off" my Jeep, I would be more than happy to prep and detail my vehicle.

One thing unreasonable about your situation is entrusting the detailing of your truck to a minimum wage lot boy.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

Glad to know your alive and enjoying that Jeep. Sorry to hear about your issues. I can sympathize deeply I CANT stand scratches or chips, I'm very picky about vehicles paint.

I will say this, I think you should find your own detailer or if you know and trust one, take your Jeep to them. That dealership has made their money and are ready to move on to the next customer. Enjoy your ride! I want to see pics!

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

My mean perspective...go out to their lots and scratch all the handles as well and tell them exactly what they told you. When you make roughly a $40K investment, you should expect it to be perfect. From the pictures you took, I can tell that this dealership is not trust worthy. Those scratches are far from normal - the scratch on the first pic in unacceptable - they may as well throw shingles at your truck.

Go the not so nicer route and get what you paid for!
