Re: Am I being unreasonable?

When the salesman told you they would take care of the problem, did he put it in writing? All dealers have what they call a "We owe" which basically is a form that they list and sign for any problems, missing equipment, etc. Hopefully you got this. If not, that was your first problem, but assuming you did, go directly to the dealership owner and request his assistance. If he is unwilling, call Chrysler directly. They will insist that the dealer fixes your issues, especially if it is documented in writing.

You keep talking about taking it to a detailer. A detailer may not be able to fix your problems. It may require a body shop. Don't be so quick to ask for $150. when it may cost a lot more. Also, once you let the dealer off the hook, he will wring his hands of the entire issue.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

I would like to thank you Jeeperscreepers, you saved my wife and I a lot of headaches. We were taking delivery of ours and ahead of time I told my wife about your problems and a few others problems and she went over it with a fine toothed comb, turns out both the front and the rear bumpers are all scratched, not bad, but enough to where you can get down to the bumpers level and see a couple of them pretty good. Our salesman saw them and said that he would take care of it by having the body shop guy buff it out. It was gone for a hour while we did paperwork, the guy did nothing, when the salesman pulled it in it had rubbing compound on it, he said he had to do it himself because the body shop guy didn't see anything. So long story short most of the scratches went away but some of the bigger ones didn't so we get to take it back on friday to get that taken care of, and there is a rattle coming from the instrument cluster, and the factory never gave us our slush mats so we have to pick those up... The plus side is the salesman is giving us his personal dealer car to drive while ours is being worked on.
The person above me is correct though, he had the form and we documented all of the things that were wrong with it before we had even bought it.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

I'm glad to hear I could be of some help loveracing. Hopefully they get it resolved for you promptly.

One other thing -- I'm definitely no detailing expert so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I believe there are products out there (glaze?) that allow problems in the paint to be hidden, but don't necessarily correct it, and these products wear off in time. There are pros and cons to this... one benefit being it's probably safer for someone who doesn't know what they're doing to use this rather than a polish. Not saying that they'll take this route though. But I do think that isopropyl alcohol on a soft microfiber can be used to remove any of this sort of "cover up" product if it exists. Just something to keep in mind.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

jeepgrady, no, stupidly I didn't get anything documented before the sale. That said, I think they're going to have a really, really hard time convincing Chrysler (if it gets to that point) that the promise wasn't made. I've got documented e-mail communication where I recounted the entire story in full to the salesman and not once did he ever deny anything I said. There are other things as well, like why would the detailer do complimentary detail work (twice) after a sale, and then there's my service drop-off form where I stated I'm dropping it off for them to do the work on the pre-existing issues as promised before the sale, and so on.

But, we'll see! Things have been busy lately so this issue has been temporarily been placed on the back burner.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

Good news: I talked to the sales manager on the phone today, and he reiterated that they don't give out money for these types of things. I then asked if they'd be willing for me to send them the bill... he asked the owner and the owner said they'd be willing to do that. It would've been nice if they offered to do this from the get go after I requested the money, but regardless, I'm happy. Now to find a decent detailer and finally be over and done with it!
