Yeah, I posted this elsewhere, but my wife and all of my friends would B*tch slap me if I got another Chrysler product right now. I really do/did love the JGC, but after two in a row, I just couldn't do it.

Not sure what direction I will start looking now.

Damn. Keep us posted. Guess your wife and friends don't believe in "third time's the charm?" I wouldn't either.

I've been out of town (and away from my JGC) for over a month and won't be back for another week and a half, and have rented multiple cars. First, I got a brand new (8 miles on the odometer) Ford Escape Titanium (top trim). I put 1,000 miles on it in 3 weeks and it is a good car, albeit not as good looking, luxurious, or big as the GC. However, the MSRP was around $35,000, quite a bit cheaper than a comparably-equipped JGC (probably a Limited with the RA4). I then had a Chevy Captiva for a few days (comparably equipped to the Ford), and it was a total piece of $hit. Now I am driving a Ford Taurus Limited (top of the line other than the high-performance SHO) that is a solid, good car. It drives well, is quiet, has ample power, and has plenty of features (much like the Escape). Unlike the JGC, I don't find that Fords have anything in particular (luxury, technology, features, looks, power, etc.) that really makes them stand out. That being said, the Fords are not trying to do too much (arguably one of the flaws of the GC); everything done is done well, if that makes sense (however, the infotainment system in the Fords does not hold a candle to UConnect in terms of features or layout). Perhaps this philosophy is why Ford has been doing so well in the past ~5 years. To sum it all up, Ford makes good vehicles and I recommend you look at them.

If you have a larger budget, I would look at Porsche/Audi/VW. The Cayenne, Q7, and Tuareg can be equipped comparably to each other and the JGC. It just depends which styling you like best and how much you want to spend. I cross-shopped all three before buying my GC. The new Mercedes ML is also nice, although I am not a huge fan of Mercedes.

In the end, getting a car that works well is the most important, even if it is not your first choice. Hopefully you can find something that is reliable and you like, even if you don't like it as much as the JGC.

I will Check out the Ford's, thanks! I like a lot of the bells and whistles, so by the time you put them in the porche, I am priced out. Audi's are a possibility. Right now, I am surfing around looking at everything from a GMC to a Caddy to Lexus...

If you looking for something as nice as the JGC inside it probably won't be a ford. It will probably need to be a ML 350 or a X5 or and Audi. I know ford has recently built this reputation for quality but if you look at alot of the recent surveys they rank as low or lower than chrysler.

Only because of the Ford MyTouch or whatever it's called. I haven't used it but it's supposed to be a hot mess. An improved hot mess, but a mess still. It has completely dragged Ford down on just about every survey.

I somehow forgot to mention Lexus. Lexus makes a great, reliable vehicle. Furthermore, the service at the dealerships could not be better. I own a Lexus GX460 in addition to my JGC, and I have yet to make any kind of repair on it. Before the GX460, I owned a GX470 and put 100,000 miles on it without making any repairs (other than replacing worn out brakes). I would highly recommend buying a Lexus. I've also owned 2 Infiniti's which have also been very reliable. I also recommend Infiniti, although the dealer service is not as good as the service at the Lexus dealers.

Re: And so it continues...

Marosenb and Amc, man, I feel for you guys when it comes to no trusting your car. My last car stalled 5+ times on me. It stalled twice then I took it in and got it fixed (2500$ tranny problem). Then It stalled/fixed, stalled/fixed, stalled/sold! It always stalled when coming to a stop and once when starting at a stoplight. I've had this jeep for over a year now and the first few months when coming to a stop, I still got that feeling of my car stalling.

Anyways, my uncle loves his passport and its been reliable. My neighbor owns an edge and she loves it. I test drove one before I bought this jeep and was quite happy with it. Fwiw, even though they are not a Jeep, I would be happy to own either of them if I were in your shoes.

I hope you two get solid, reliable cars whatever they may be.

Wow! I am glad that they will be taking care of you on this, but this is nuts.

I hate to say it, but these JGCs have some bad issues. So far, my 2013 is trouble free, but I will have no confidence in it long term.

to Fiat/Chrysler, please fix these electronics and please fix these drains. These should be recall issues.

Thanks, ChrisOC! There is little worse than that feeling when your car just stops in the road and you don't know if it will start up again. You want to be able to really trust your vehicle. Glad you got a good car this time!
