Seriously though, if you have had that quantity of issues with your 2011, I would probably just go for the 2014 thinking that the chances are it will probably be significantly better than your 2011. Really.

The chances of your getting a real lemon are pretty remote, and it sounds like your 2011 is, while not a lemon in severity of issues, probably a lemon in quantity of issues. Your 2014 experience is very likely to be better. Probably not perfect, as we have discussed here, but likely better.

Still, there is no way I'd be buying. I'd be leasing. No question. Or do the extended warranty. It's a certainty that when I do get another Jeep, it will ALWAYS BE UNDER WARRANTY.

My 2002 is so simple it's genius. I have no problem doing work myself, and when I don't do it, it's easy and cheap to get it done by someone else.

I think that era of Jeep is pretty much over. Look at the new Cherokee. It's ALL technology. GC too.

I'm going to start a new acronym here when it comes to Jeep (and probably most new vehicles): NBOW - Never Be Out of Warranty.
From a guy who has had the issues you have had, you have a good general point of view on the issues.

Dammit! I have that hole too, but I think I got short-changed on the glass. They only put one piece on mine. Should definitely gave brought that up with the lawyer, but I think it's probably too late now.

Jeez...

I don't have the experience with all the models, dealers, etc. you do, but I probably read too much (just makes me more paranoid) and have owned a lot of cars.

And most of all, I try to be fair and see all the angles.

Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. It's tougher when emotion is involved. But thanks.

Thats my hope, perfection isn't what I'm after, but I would like to be able to take it to my mechanic to have the oil changed instead of constantly having reasons to take it to the dealer...

Oh for sure, definitely leasing.

Re: And so it continues...

One other thing I would like to add to the conversation... I know it was also talked about in the comparision of Ford treads etc. I am not sure that this thread is "busier" than the Ford thread because I have no real data to go on. What I can tell you is that it has been clearly identified that Jeep owners in particular are almost as active in their online efforts as can be compared to specialty groups more like Corvettes, yet there are many more of them.

Jeep owners are 3 times more likely to do online research about their vehicle problems AND actively participate in the solutions than other brands. Also for some reason Jeep owners are more passionate about their vehicle choices (good and bad). If you want examples of this read the war on whether we can safely call a Jeep Grand Cherokee a "crossover" or not, you have been warned!

Anyway, I get passionate when I feel a label is being attached to people who don't deserve it. So while some of the "quality" issues may stem from certain things at assembly, I do not believe that is the end all be all source of the problems.

Re: And so it continues...

In the spirit of open mindedness I did go drive a 2014 Overland this afternoon. Boy is it nice, I haven't driven a GC with QL before, it rides incredibly well, really very close to as well as my Lexus...

The conflicted decision continues

Re: And so it continues...

So we're going to talk about it, my wife needs to drive everything too. Its between the 2014 MDX, the JX35/QX60 and another Jeep I think. All of them are right around $49k, best deal seems to be the JX/QX assuming you do a leftover 2013, second is the Jeep, then the MDX which is just out and deals aren't as plentiful. The Jeep is undoubtedly the nicest vehicle in the group, downside being my prior experience and the lack of the third row.

Just a heads up if we get a 2014...if this thing leaves my wife stranded on the side of the road while it beeps and honks and sprays washer fluid on the trees we can't expect amc to support me all on his own. I'm going to expect to sleep on all of your couches a week or so a month LOL
