Just the MIL indicator, twice where on the second it reset itself [bogus evap sensor if memory serves] and the speedo mysteriously going blank, twice, which corrected itself on the second instance by just shut off, open driver door, close, restart.

A few minor annoying items in the UConnect, not enough to upgrade till get a long weekend--where none of those are annoying enough to speed up that schedule.

Thats just Toyota and thats just the surface.

JeepGarage has 47,000 members. This is a great forum, nice and active but it is not a huge forum by far. JeepForum.com has 419,000 members but the WK2 section here is much better.
wasn't comparing them to JeepGarage. Weve only been here 4 years.

bought it in july, currently about 1500 miles.
I suspect if I were having genuine mobility issues on a roughly 50K vehicle, I might be just a tad testy. And if I were inflicted with local dealers that sound like some of the ones encountered, I might become outright unhappy. But if there are multiple dealers around, I would try other service departments, and as far as possible keep it civil and goal oriented with any communication with Mopar themselves--right up until I bring in the lawyers.

But somehow, complaining that my ac doesn't come on in remote start, or gee, I actually have to push a knob or two, just doesn't seem to reach those levels.

Hmm, UConnect also seems unable to detect that a USB device has been left connected, and wants you to remove and insert it AFTER selecting media. Granted, I'm waiting for my round tuit to arrive before I update to latest code--or a later code drop.

No paint flaws, the missus made the sales and prep staff sweat blood and remove even invisible dust spots before she'd hand me our checkbook. Almost felt sorry for them. ... almost.

None of my external trim seems loose, but if it were, thats why God made glue.

You can't compare a classic with anything thats being made today, whether that experience was before it was a classic or not, they are just entirely different things.

Then compare them to any other forum. These brands all have plenty of Forum support.

Depends on the make. Japanese makes, no.
Thought I just saw Toyota recalling 885,000 vehicles. Guess that's small potatoes.

I see Jeep owners as being more passionate about their vehicles, particularly on the internet.

Maybe because they go through so much adversity, and misery loves company.

Well this is why Lexus forums have so many members. They need to talk about the 2nd and 3rd times doing the same recall that they didn't do correctly the first few times.

Re: And so it continues...

I said this before and I really think it applies. Other brand customers (Lexus, Infiniti, Audi, BMW, etc) tend to be more..."compliant" about their vehicles. They have been told for years how much more reliable and better these brands are, so when they have issues, they mark it off as a "one-off" or simply that "things happen." They're less vocal about the issues. On the other hand, people have been told for years that U.S. brands (Chrysler, GM, Ford) are so much worse in terms of quality. Because of that, the instant anything goes wrong, this "confirms" their bias, and they are off to the races, telling anyone and everyone that they were right...U.S. manufacturers are awful.

I've owned Chrysler, Ford, GM, Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti, and Mazdas. I've also been active in forums and research on all of them. The reality is...I stopped trusting the "reliability" indexes (J.D. Powers, Consumer Reports, etc) long ago because of how biased consumers really are. Perceived issues in one brand are simply not "perceived" in others. Absolute figures, such as actual hard failures, are fairly equal across the business--but those actual numbers are not what consumers see. They see satisfaction and reliability "indexes" which incorporate all this subjective perception. They also see "number of problems per 100 vehicles" which incorporates EVERYTHING, including trim that needed to be pushed back into place with someone's thumb. That can be extremely misleading, because a vehicle in which 100/100 need to have a piece of trim adjusted or replaced but has no other issues is far more reliable than one in which even 5/100 need a new transmission.

Another thing I tend to see is that...and I hope nobody takes offense to this...for MOST brands the general consumer today is almost completely ignorant about the operation of their vehicle. And I mean...completely ignorant, to the point of not even dealing with basic maintenance or understanding why it must be done. They are also somewhat iffy about basic operation as well. Because of that, they take a fairly simplistic view of the vehicle. Jeep owners in particular are somewhat different. Many of them tend to know a bit more about their vehicles and that tends to skew satisfaction (remember...ignorance is bliss). They "notice" things many others which tend to gravitate towards other brands simply don't. I'm not saying this accounts for all of the skew...but it is there, especially in online communities.

This is not to say Chrysler has the best quality in the world and is simply misunderstood...not at all. I just think the "perceived complaint factor" tends to be somewhat overblown.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but nobody is entitled to their own facts. There are MANY very active auto forums on the internet...there is nothing special or unique about Jeep owners in regards to posting online. I've been posting on Auto forums online for 15 years...nothing unique here in the slightest.

Hey...at least they recall the vehicles when theres an issue. I and my family have owned many Toyota vehicles over the years, we have also owned multiple Chrysler vehicles. There is no doubt in my mind that had I bought a Toyota Highlander I would not have 95% of the problems I've had with my Jeep. My Jeep has been in the shop more in two years than all the other vehicles I've owned combined...and some of those vehicles were owned for 150k+ miles.

Now, the Jeep is a MUCH nicer vehicle than a Highlander, but I gotta admit when it needs to spend 2+ days at the dealer every time it needs an oil change having a laundry list of things done...I kinda think I could deal with the Highlander being boring.

These things are like 80's Jaguars. Beautiful...but high maintenance. If your Jeep had now 23 warranty failures over 24 months you'd feel the same way.

That may be true, but to write "Japanese makes, no" when discussing problems is just baloney. My brother and my closest cousin had the frames rust through on their Tacomas. I'd feel "the same way" about that, too.
