Re: And so it continues...

I will get back to you guys on the cause, but I do know that they are pulling an engine off the line and putting it in mine. Also, if this was not already obvious, they are giving me a completely new engine.

Thanks for the input guys.

If it's actually a factory line pull you'll be pretty good to go. They shouldn't even have to transfer accessories over like the alternator, fuel rail, and so forth. It'll be a drop in with much less chance of anything going wrong.

That's a best case scenario for you... As Pete mentioned literally everything will be brand new and preassembled making the swap much easier (although it's not that bad to begin with).

Re: And so it continues...

So I got all the work done based on the recall.

Before bringing it in for that, I was still having electrical quirkiness, but after the dealer updated everything, it was all good for like a week. Now, the nav does not work (thinks I am about 1/2 mile to the west of my real location, regardless of if there is a road there or not. The website/app remote start does not work, and I always get the "vehicle phone requires service, contact dealer" message when I start the Jeep...

Willix, any know issues with the last published update? Not sure if this is a software thing, or hardware - ever since everything got wet, there has been a lot of weird things going on with the electric systems, even though they replaced a lot of the components.

It's a shame, too, because other than that, I was finally really starting to enjoy the Jeep, and forget about all the mechanical stuff that had happened.

Also, do any of you guys notice a huge variance in MPG from one tank to the next? Same driving conditions, I will get 14 MPG average over the tank (calculated by me) and the next tank full, same commute, I will get 18-19 MPG... I know I will never get close to the advertised MPG - Where I live, traffic is a tough, it is hilly, and I have a heavy foot

Ugh. I'm really sorry to hear about that.

As others have said, I would probably let them do the replacement and see how it turns out. In all likelihood it will be fine. If its not fine, be sure you are satisfied. I hope this doesn't turn into a nightmare for you.

Its no different than a minivan. People have been sitting in the third row for decades. Its fine.

I have had no experience with engine replacements in the past, but I find it hard to believe that I will have no future issues or take a hit on resale value after replacing such a major component. I might try to get it replaced, but again have no experience doing so. I guess my questions are:

1. Do you think that everything will be perfectly fine after the engine is replaced?
2. Will I take a hit on resale value?
3. Would you try to do the same thing if you were in my shoes, and do you think I have a case?

Thanks for your input.
I own a jeep jeep commander with the 4.7 in addition to my Grand Cherokee and a couple years ago the engine got ruined in that. It had about 80k miles at the time and the dealer replaced it with a used engine with about the same milage or a little less. It now has about 112k miles and its been fine runs great. So in your case getting a brand new engine I think it will be fine as long as the tech does a good job .
