You don't understand what I was saying, so I'll say it again: Without venturing to some kind of remote area, safety is still a concern when your vehicle won't start. Just ask the girl who was kidnapped one night when her car left her stranded. Her father only missed her abduction by five minutes.

Likely? Not really. Can it happen? Of course it can.

I do understand. it is not an issue to me because i do a little planning. if it breaks in the concrete jungle call AAA and rent a car. if it breaks at the mountain cabin, again call AAA and rent a car. if i am going to a remote area where the temp, food and shelter is a concern, i would plan for that before going.

who was this girl, do you have a link to the article. if it happened the guy should fry, however preparation is still the key.

Rely on yourself not you jeep, you are a lot less likely to be disappointed.

No link, I saw the story on TV. I think it was on Unsolved Mysteries. They found her broken car, but never found her.

Is it worth it?...
I completely agree with this point of view. However, this is catch-22 situation.

What we want is that new component is not released until it is at least as reliable as component it replaces.

But component it replaces has been around for [dozens of] years to get where it is now reliability-wise.

Keep in mind that new component is usually more complicated than an old one, often representing quantum leap (ETC vs drive-over-the-wire). In case of quantum leap you kind of start from zero reliability-wise because nothing like this had ever been used before on the wide scale.

So there is no way to get new component to the same reliability level as old component when new component is released.

Add the fact that dealership will be close to useless to Chrysler to help diagnose/reproduce electronic drivetrain problems (unless each dealership employs firmware engineer fully up-to-date on latest everything, and we know this is not happening)

We are doomed (and I am not completely kidding).

STIX is just really nice
So looks like this is the third instance of this happening on the forum.

At a minimum this is a chrysler issue, and a very annoying one at that.

When it happened to me they replaced the whole win module to be safe. At least this has happened to each of us in a somewhat safe convenient location.

Glad too hear the dealer its taking care of you on this one.

Makes me wonder if the switch on the brake is working.

Re: !$^@&W%&#*#@^!@^@&% jeep !@^$@^

This thread makes my head hurt, aside from not wanting to post any more. This whole talk of being prepared is erratic and extremely eccentric! A little common sense goes an EXTREMELY long way, spoken from experience. Having gone through cold weather training for a deployment overseas, seeing temps near -20 F in the cold, snow covered, desolate areas of Germany, in the heart of winter. I did not have a subzero tent either, and we did not use or humvee's as a source of warmth. That is all I will comment on this subject, as it was NOT the topic of the thread.

The dealer is replacing the entire module, key fobs included. Key fobs being on back order are what kept the jeep at the dealership this weekend, as they had the module on Friday. I will continue to update the thread as I stated earlier, but DAMN...I'm afraid to start any other ones.

I agree with your point, moosehead. But not the greatest example to pick. The Donner party had many deaths and resorted to cannibalism to survive. Look it up.

Edit - maybe my sarcasm bone is just too slow today.

Note to self: when headed into the backcountry, take plenty of human flesh and tabasco
