Re: !$^@&W%&#*#@^!@^@&% jeep !@^$@^

Wow I had the same problem, battery was fine but when I jumped in my vehicle with the key fob in hand it kept saying "Key Not Detected" when I hit the START button. Came back with the spare key fob and same thing. I was in a hurry so I took my other vehicle. When I came back later that night and tried it again it fired right up... Weird huh? It's such a minor stupid issue probably but I ain't no mechanic.... It was a good thing I had another vehicle other wise I would have had to cab to work that day needless to say it would have been better taking the Jeep due to a huge snow storm since my other vehicle was on summer tires... And that's just one of the many problems I've had with this car. The wonders of buying a new generation model car huh? Should have waited :P

Waited, NO WAY! I like this jeep, a great deal better than all but two of my past vehicles, an 03 Cobra pushing 620+rwhp and the 09 tundra I traded to get the wife this jeep. Could have kept the Tundra, but I refuse to have more than one car payment and with a kid on the way, well...it happens.

Hope all is well with your jeep and you don't experience this again.

Overlander,

Just wondering if you tried using the remote start when the pushbutton wouldn't detect your key? Curious if the Jeep would have started that way. Haven't run into any problems so far with my new WK2 (knock on wood).

It is because of problems like this that I've decided to WAIT until the 2012 models arrive.

My 6 year old 2005 Toyota 4Runner has NEVER needed to be towed. In fact, it has never had a single electrical or mechanical problem that required a trip to the dealership.

I don't think it is asking too much for this kind of reliability. Many Toyotas routinely have it. I had hoped that Chrysler had raised their QC after the bankruptcy and restructuring. If they want people to believe they can build world class vehicles, performance and features are only part of it. Reliability and value also play a huge role.

Most Japanese vehicles are top-drawer reliable ... and top-drawer boring.

Chrysler/Fiat can produce cars that look great, perform well and are fun to drive. But it will be a cold day in Hades before they have QA and long-term reliability to compare with the Japanese and, increasingly, Korean marques.

So I get off work today and drive home. Change clothes and get the wife as we are heading out to pick up her ring we ordered a few weeks earlier. Get into the jeep, press the brake, push the start button....NOTHING!!!! WTF???? Forgot my key fob, crap; pockets, key fob present, check! Depress brake a second time, push the start button....NOTHING!!!! WTF??? I'm getting a bit frustrated by now, so I pry the button out, put my fob in, press brake, turn key to start and . . . NOTHING!!!!!!!! Okay, dead battery...no problem, well PROBLEM, but solvable problem. Wait, what the heck is this....MY KEY WON'T COME OUT OF THE IGNITION!!! HMMMMM...NOT GOOD. I then realize, my headlights work, my power door locks work, power windows work...maybe not a dead battery. Try to jump it anyway....NOTHING!!!

I am ABSOLUTELY LIVID at this time. I get out of the jeep, and make an attempt to cool down a bit. Contact the Jeep dealer thats 2 miles away and they inform me that I'll have to contact road side assistance and have it towed in, no prob, standard procedure. Road side gets here in 30 MINS! Awesome (no sarcasim) Time for a rental...or so I thought(problem). Again, !TEQ^QYT@#^&@%#$*&#^%& I contact Chrysler customer services, explain that I bought a second vehicle because my wife is PREGNANT and we wanted a safe, RELIABLE vehicle for her, and I also state that I am active duty military and we need two cars as I must have my own transportation for work. They are currently awaiting the dealerships word on the problem of the vehicle, and then I'll have a rental.(no problem, dealerships open till 9pm) . . . PROBLEM...all service techs left at 5pm tonight, my jeep got there just after 5pm! $!^@&@&@&*#*$(

Needless to say, this has not been my day. I did not buy a 40K vehicle to act as a paper-weight. Well, I didn't pay anywhere near 40K, but it's the simple fact that if I were willing to pay sticker, I would have been at 40K with T,T&L.

I'll be certain to keep this post updated. Questions and comments are welcomed!
I've been having similar issues with total key failure. I've gone through three sets of keys, replaced WIN and PEM modules. The dealer, Mopar, and Chrysler engineers are all stumped at this point. I've filed for relief under Wisconsin's Lemon Law and spoke with Chrysler Quality asking them to buy back the JGC. The vehicle's been in for service six times totalling 25 days so far and failed me 15 times at work, home, and in between.

Chrysler will be contacting me again today with an update, my case is now at the local "Business Center" for review.

Re: !$^@&W%&#*#@^!@^@&% jeep !@^$@^

Please keep us updated on this. I told my dealership that if the jeep fails us one more time, it will be traded. My wife likes the Mercedes GLK 350, and the VW Tiguan. Neither of which are in the same league as the GC, but, it's her car and she can have either, since they are in the same price range as the GC.

I do like my jeep though. Keeps getting better every day, but if it strands us again, it will be gone the day we get it back, as the dealership claims they will buy it back, but I take that as blowing smoke, I'll just trade it. I refuse to have a vehicle that strands me, let alone my preggers wife, or heaven forbid, her and the kid in the middle of an SC summer while she's out running errands....

Best of luck to you zer0kid.

Re: !$^@&W%&#*#@^!@^@&% jeep !@^$@^

Chrysler has voluntarily chosen to buy back the Jeep!
I'll be credited the window sticker price to be used against the purchase of another vehicle at sticker price. If the new Jeep is lower in price I won't get refunded the difference, getting something more expensive and I'll pay the difference and the tax. There won't be any negative price adjustments as it only had 3,500 miles. I don't know if I'll get a cash refund on the accessories purchased and added later, just that "It would be taken care of", even less clear on compensation for what I paid to have the front windows tinted.

As for the twenty-something days I had to go without use of the Jeep, I guess I need to swallow that bitter pill. It's upsetting mailing in a monthly car payment for a car I barely got to use during that time. Am I being made whole? Sure. Do I feel like I've lost value on the vehicle purchase versus it's use? Absolutely.

Now for the ultimate question, what are you going to purchase next?

I had a Mineral Gray/Black Limited with 20" wheels and Luxury Package. I picked out a Black/Saddle Overland which should be ready this evening. The sticker price on my Limited is higher than an Overland so I'm moving up with no added cost.
I would rather have gotten another Mineral Gray or Charcoal over Black but choices on Overlands are sparse and I'm not willing to wait without a vehicle while continuing to make payments.

All in all, I'm happy to be getting into a JGC again but it'll take some time before I can press a button on the fobik without holding my breath. Time will tell if I made a mistake.
