Suspect this is the way of the future, and not just for Jeep. With our preference now for all things electronic to be fitted to our cars, it would appear there is going to be a lot of teething problems.
I work for a fire service and we have many issues with our trucks as we now have loaded them up with a multitude of electronic devices and systems. Our workshops are constantly out trying to work out what is going on. Gone are the simpler days, motor, starter, alternater etc.
That sucker's been floating around for awhile. Ironically, I received my notice in the mail today. And of course...
- They want you to schedule an appointment AFTER Sept 15th (meaning parts not yet available or in short supply again).
- They want you to "fix something" where no problem exists (unless you've had some prior service work done that impacted the sunvisor, headliner or moldings in the area adjacent to the sunvisor).
Like y'all (MD Bones and 12attitude), I haven't done the brakes yet because the solution seems to cause more issues and I never have had any work done to the vanity lights so I don't want anyone screwing around with the headiner and Lord only knows what else.
Got the notice today as well. Went in for an oil change and the brake recall last week. Was told the parts are on back order and they will notify in me when they come in. Said they will probably be about 6-8 weeks and I should just wait to come back until my next oil change. Standard Chrysler parts issues nothing new here. I'm sure this mirror thing will be the same story
Interestingly, when picking up my car from the dealer and speaking to the service manager about TSB's and bulletins, he is of the opinion they only apply these when they absolutely have to ie. told to by Jeep. In many instances the fix is for an issue that has "occurred" to someone and is applied when the issue presents.
If the issue does not occur, he is loathe to apply the fix because he has found it will create other issues.
I got the the darn letter yesterday!
I really don't want it have it done.
Speaking of headliner, Uconnect and Chrysler tech support want to have the antenna worked on and possibly replaced due to some issues I have had since day 1...does the headliner have to be dropped to replace the antenna? If so, may just live with both issues.
I had the sharkfin antenna problem early on and had mine replaced under a TSB. I don't believe they had to drop the headliner to do the fix. At least I see no indication that they had.
got notice yesterday (but already new it was coming.. read it here)
really, this one seems pretty lame... who designed this POS? ... maybe mine will burn up before we get it in to be fixed then I can go get a good truck
I Tried to look it up in the TSB and didn't notice anything really on the headliner having to come down and their diagram is for the old style antenna. I did notice the labor rates were somewhat low if it did involve the headliner removal ...but just wasn't sure. Thanks again.
they don't take the headliner out to replace shark fin they can get to it by that plastic panel near it. I had that fish fin done its pretty painless they did a good job could not even tell they had messed with it.
I had taken my vehicle in for some issues and they called and informed me that they had done the recall and it took about 2hrs and everything went smoothly...I didn't know they were going to do this, so I'm super worried about this when I get it. I'll check it out and report back when I pick it up. (Supposedly the parts arrived at the dealer yesterday and I was 'lucky' enough to already be in)
My Jeep is going in this week for both recalls. Will have service check records for prior work done for the recall on sun visor is only if work was done in past. Keep you guys and girls posted after work is done.
Had both recalls fixed today. Everything went smoothly. I asked a lot of questions regarding both issues regarding prior fixes of recalls and service manager was very cooperative and informative of any doubts regarding how truck would be after repairs. My wife drove truck home as nothing was ever done. The dealership was well prepared to handle recalls.
I decided to decline the visor recall with the dealer. If figured with the advice of the tech that if no work was done prior there is no problem. I dont want them tearing my jeep apart inside.
I did put myself on the list for the booster recall work.
