Hopefully we can avoid having this done for a long time.

From the TSB/Recall;

"Each dealer to whom vehicles in the recall were assigned will receive enough Sun Visor Wire Guide Packages to service about 20% of those vehicles."

The dealer I use is pretty good. But this involves too much trim removal to expect it to come back without any misalignments and rattles.

Between the booster and this, I may have to start doing my own oil changes again, just to avoid the dealership.

There is no way they are doing that to my jeep. I may be done with the dealer till I trade it in.

Re: Another Recall - Vanity Mirror Lamp

Exactly my concern also Bill, its probably unlikely to get out of it without additional rattles or things being hastily reassembled and it showing. Also it doesn't sound as though there is any threat of fire at all unless someone messes with things up there anyway. agree will be putting this one off although at the rate this vehicle is back in for things it will be hard as we will be hounded about it every time we bring the thing in.

Re: Another Recall - Vanity Mirror Lamp

Not sure dealer has someone who can follow those instructions despite the photos. I'm thinking plan is to jump ship and watch it burn.

Re: Another Recall - Vanity Mirror Lamp

Can you refuse to have a recall done if you need to bring it in for something else?

Heh, seriously considering that myself.
My brakes work fine, my sunroof don't rattle, and I'd really really like to see them stay that way.

It is a bit of a bitch to get at, but the brake thing is amenable to coating with Rustoleum undercoating using some kludged up painting tools. Plus the common sense brushless under hood light pressure wash every weekend.

My dealer will allow it... YMMV.

The wording indicates that the recall service may be needed if prior work has been done.

Unfortunately I don't see anything that indicates the dealer should do a VIN search for prior service and leave the damn thing alone if none has been done and the owner is the original owner and swears none has been done.

Possibly this is what is meant, that if the dealer cannot tell and the vehicle has changed owners, just possibly any prior service might not be logged against the VIN because prior service was not done by a dealer, or the then-owner had Joe's Bar and Body Shop touch the thing.

Poorly written TSB In My Non-Humble Opinion.

"The sun visor wiring must be inspected on all involved vehicles to find those that may have had an improper service procedure. Any damaged sun visor wiring found during the inspection will be repaired. Also, sun visor wire guides will be installed on all vehicles to reroute sun visor wiring to prevent wiring damage during any future service procedures."

Seems pretty straight forward.

Yes, and egregiously stupid.
If there is a future repair, do the extra work then.
If there has been no repair, leave the damn thing alone, because there is this nasty little proven fact that applies to repair work across any industry--the repair tech is as likely to eff things up that weren't broke in doing any service action as they are to actually do any good. The crossover point is for any service action on any object where there are 8 or more separate steps in the procedure, you have extremely close to a 50% probability that a problem will be injected.

I may have been doing this sort of calculation for over 50 years and the numbers haven't changed since early NASA theoretical studies and Bell Labs studies, plus pretty much any company that tracks service repairs. Well, actually, they've gone down a bit in the last couple decades where now the crossover point is below 8 steps. Seems not enough kids play with their mechanicals and electricals any more.

Recalls seem to be the fashion these days.
Apparently the lunches at congressional hearings suck for the called witnesses.
