If there has been no repair, leave the damn thing alone, because there is this nasty little proven fact that applies to repair work across any industry--the repair tech is as likely to eff things up that weren't broke in doing any service action as they are to actually do any good. The crossover point is for any service action on any object where there are 8 or more separate steps in the procedure, you have extremely close to a 50% probability that a problem will be injected.

I may have been doing this sort of calculation for over 50 years and the numbers haven't changed since early NASA theoretical studies and Bell Labs studies, plus pretty much any company that tracks service repairs. Well, actually, they've gone down a bit in the last couple decades where now the crossover point is below 8 steps. Seems not enough kids play with their mechanicals and electricals any more.
And how is every repair shop, body shop, or backyard mechanic going to know to do the repair ... next year, in five years, in ten years?

Jeep is doing what they are required to do, whether we like it or not.

NHTSA reports three vehicles, all of whom had prior work done.
There obviously may be more than NHTSA is aware of.

Unless there is some danger for untouched vehicles, this has to be one of the stupider recalls I've seen since the days of Clarence Ditlow and Ralph Nader---it would be much easier to target this to any vehicle going IN for repair and leave the rest alone.

They now have the "I know there is a danger" hat that their legal dept placed on their heads, simple as that.

Once it hits lawsuit land all decisions are made with direct consult with legal. Guess who usually wins?

There is no way they are taking my Jeep apart like that! My Jeep has had no repairs or maintenance done to the mirrors or headliner so I ain't touching anything.

Re: Another Recall - Vanity Mirror Lamp

Why am I having visions of stripped screws, buckled headliners, rattling overhead consoles, and leaking door seals? I've got two of these things to get this AND the brake booster recall. What are the odds of getting both of them done with no screw ups? I love the vehicles but between recalls and TSBs it's like joining the Fight of the Month Club. And my dealer is 40 miles away.

Have u actually read the brake recall TSB instructions? Like 115 ways for the tech to eff up quite a bit.

Re: Another Recall - Vanity Mirror Lamp

My recall notice arrived this afternoon, and I have no intention of having this work done (I don't think I've ever even used the vanity lamp!). No repairs have been made.

I still have to get the brake booster recall done one of these days. (no problems noted thus far).

Re: Another Recall - Vanity Mirror Lamp

I still can't figure out how this recall works. Are all 2011-2014 WK2's going to be recalled, stripped out their internals and inspected? Or is only a small group of them (presumably 181K) are going to go through this mess?

Re: Another Recall - Vanity Mirror Lamp

I had my brake booster fix done in less than 1 hr. The SM I talked to has seen two FAIL prior to recall in my RUST-BELT town. I'm glad I had that fixed. The water from salt spray will pool and rust through quickly, apparently..

As for this mirror thing, I don't want that. I never use it. Haven't had the recall yet.

What I would prefer to do is disconnect the wire, even put in a quick connect somewhere below the headliner so it could be reconnected some day easily.

Anyone have any idea where one would simply "cut" the wires to just remove any risk of fire, even if no headliner work has or will be done?
