I cannot understand how this can be. Isn't there a quality control at the factory? I mean this is not something non-obvious or intermittent

As near as we can tell, some of the vehicles are sent out quickly- probably with only a quick once over. Some of them go through a few days of quality control before shipping. Then there's those where they take weeks and go over it with a fine toothed comb (if the excuses are to be believed).

I had same question. There is an update. Today, I left the dealer with the dealer ordering a replacement. This evening driving the car, I tried one more time navigation and SURPRISE, it worked, I was able to use the phone feature as well and pair my blackberry ... very happy. I will call the dealer tomorrow, I think he did not realized he fixed it ... the car feels great in all aspects ...

no pebkac, the initial error was very clear, navigation database not installed. I did see that the service guy played with the registration keys for sirius and navigation, however after he tried it did not work. I think this is like windows, you have to restart ...

I sure hope the computer that drives this car is better than Windows...

Re: Any glitches after weeks of driving?

Update on my leaking sunroof:

I tried to schedule service last week on this after getting back from camping (luckily no rain). But apparently my stealer contracts with a special company that does all "leak work" and comes once a week. Took it in today and found that one of the drain tubs from the sunroof channels was installed wrong (basically routed wrong) causing a kink in the line and that was what caused the interior rain storm. They also replaced the sunroof gasket because according to them it was not installed correctly because of that it was now slightly deformed.

All covered under warranty of course. And when I got home I gave it a good long soaking with the hose to test it. No more problems. We are supposed to get a bunch of rain this week so we will see.

Glad it is worked out. I had the same problem on my old ZJ - these tubes get clogged over time.

Re: Any glitches after weeks of driving?

We picked up our 11 Overland V6 (w/730 Nav & Off-road package) Sept 24th and had one driver seat issue and two minor paint and chrome strip flaws.

First the driverís seat back will only move back not forward (new motor on order), just a minor driving unconvinced.

The chrome strip under the driver side passenger window had a flaw (on order) and minor paint flaw (1/16 in round) under the passenger rear view mirror. After discussion with sales rep decided not to repaint the whole door and fix with touch up paint. His suggestion was not mess with the factory paint job.....

That is a wise decision. If repainted, the door would probably discolor in relation to the rest of the vehicle under certain lighting conditions.

Re: Any glitches after weeks of driving?

Purchased V6 Laredo on 9/11 and have had a couple of issues.

1. High beams did not work - Fixed by installing new mulitswitch. Happy with this result.

2. Driver's seat(cloth) lumbar support or a mechanism in the lumbar support feels like it shifts sided to side and clunks around when cornering or going over speed bumps. Extremely aggravating. Brought to dealer three times and they cannot simulate problem....Of course if they would test drive it they would realize the problem. If I could remove the back panel from the driver's seat and see what was back there I may be able to fix it myself.

3. Passenger's seat makes a clunking noise only when someone is sitting in the seat and I am cornering or going over speed bumps. The seat seems to be somewhat loose on the track and upright portion of the seat also feels loose. Brought to dealer three times and they cannot simulate problem (clunking noise)...Once again no test drive.

If anyone has had these same problems and had them fixed, specifically with the seats, I would greatly appreciate the help. Other than that the vehicle is great. Thanks.

Drew
