Question Any Issues with Servicing Your Jeep at a Different/Non-Purchase Dealership?

I, along with a few other members, have purchased our trucks through the various group buy threads. I decided to create this thread because a few of the local dealerships by me acted extremely unprofessional when told that I could get the same truck for ~5% under invoice. In fact, one of the general managers even yelled at me in front of everyone

With that said, I'm glad I was able to get the Jeep I wanted (at an awesome price); however, I can't realistically drive to another state if/when there's a problem. Can any of the local dealerships around me say - "NO, we cannot fix/help"?

I'm definitely staying away from the crazy manager one, but I'm not sure how others will react if/when I go there with a car purchased from a different dealership and in a different state.

FYI, a friend had an issue with his Nissan Pathfinder. When brought to another dealership, they turned her away since she didn't purchase the car through them. Not sure if I got the entire story but she was pissed. Hoping the Jeep experience isn't the same

Re: Any Issues with Servicing Your Jeep at a Different/Non-Purchase Dealership?

Additionally, it appears that some dealerships offer a "free" loaner if your vehicle was purchased from them. This is obviously dealer discretion but, if I purchase the Lifetime Warranty, does that mean they have to still give me a loaner?

How would this work if I just had the basic warranty...? I'm guessing they could just say no.

Why do you find it necessary to tell the dealership what you paid for your Jeep? It is none of their business. If you choose to stir up that hornet's nest then I guess you have to live with the consequences. You are buying service from their store and nothing else. That is all they need to be concerned about. I know different states have different laws about who a store may refuse service to but I think if you check your warranty it says you can ask for service at Any CDJR dealership. What if you were on a trip and out of state when you needed service? Are you supposed to have your Jeep hauled back to your local dealer for service?

Any CDJR dealership has to honor the basic and powertrain warranty that it comes with. Can't say how they'd treat a non-Jeep extended warranty, or giving out a loaner.

While they have to honor the basic and powertrain warranty there's nothing stopping them from making you low man on the totem pole behind customers who purchased their vehicles from the dealership.

Loaner cars are not part of the basic warranty. Some dealers provide then, and sometimes Chrysler/Jeep will authorize one.

I have never had my Jeep to the service department where I bought it. My servicing dealer was happy to have a new service customer.

Re: Any Issues with Servicing Your Jeep at a Different/Non-Purchase Dealership?

I bought my GC used from a BMW dealer with only 4400 miles. I know the original dealership but it is not convenient for me to go there. I have had both recalls, the trailer wiring enabled, and 2 TSB's performed at my local dealer with excellent service. They too offer a free loaner only if you buy from them so I wasn't eligible. But I have used their free shuttle.

On the loaner issue, they do not have to offer you a free loaner vehicle if you did not purchase the car at that particular dealership. If you have the Lifetime Max Care Service Contract Chrysler will pay $35 a day toward a rental car for up to 5 days. This is Chrysler paying so the dealership has nothing to say about it. The only problem here is if the dealership chooses to be uncooperative you may need to find your own ride to the rental car agency if the rental agency is not on the dealer's premises.

It's part of the negotiating process... I asked politely if they could match or beat $XX,XXX. They basically told me to f-off. I didn't have to do anything. It just took 1 question.

I think the attitude you got had something to do with how you approached them. I have never had that reaction when I negotiated. But in any case now that you have upset them I am not sure I would want my Jeep in that dealership's service department anyway. It just may come out with a few problems it didn't have when it went in.

Re: Any Issues with Servicing Your Jeep at a Different/Non-Purchase Dealership?

BTW - I also changed my dealer on the Mopar Connect website to indicate the correct servicing dealer. They now send coupons for discounts and an occasional free oil change. I got my Jeep March of '13. I've had four free oil changes and still have a coupon for one more. The dealer where I bought it gave me nothing.

I took mine to the place were i bought it first few times and they were bad have been going to a different one ever since . The subject of where it was purchased never comes up and idont offer it. They are glad to have a new customer. Just schedule an appointment and take it in. The maxcare rental is a great benifit, i have used that 8 or 9 times in the last year and a half sometimes multiday. It says $35 a day but im not sure how much meaning that has i get a comprable vehicle to my GC and you would never come close to renting vehicles like that for $35a day with taxes if the rental was not some how affiliated with the maxcare. There are a lot of rotten jeep dealers out there if you go to one and its no good just walk out and go to another one, dont waste your time arguing just leave, they lost a customer. I really like the one i am going to now and i never thought i would say that. Good luck
