Appropriate size subwoofer?

I have a Laredo with the base sound system. I've replaced the factory head unit with a Pioneer Premier single DIN deck and replaced the factory speakers with Boston Acoustics Pro60 components powered by an Alpine amp (mounted on the back of the rear passenger side seat).

The sound right now is amazing but there is no low end at all since I have the rear speakers off, and the component speakers only produce mids and highs.

Has anyone added a sub to their WK2 yet? I'm thinking about going with a JL Audio 10" 3w3. I wanted to get an idea from someone else who has customized their car audio to see if it will be enough (or too much?). I'm just looking for a sub to adequately complement my speakers. I don't want to shake the car next to me.

Re: Appropriate size subwoofer?

I think rule of thumb is it should be as big as your tires

no such thing as too much.....you can always turn it down if its too loud, but if its too quiet and you got a small sub, you might not be able to turn it up.......and what if the guy next to you is a jerk...you can rattle him if you like.

Re: Appropriate size subwoofer?

The factory sub location is in the space at the right rear where you have a storage pocket now. It may be possible to mount a 10" or 12" in that location and that size seems to be about right for what you seem to be trying to achieve.

If you want to spend a needless $700.00 get a JL stealth box, if you want to get an accurate , tight, punchy, Sub that gets plenty loud , has great SQ, and is made in America by a company that provides amazing customer service for $125.00 then get a SSA Dcon 12.

Re: Appropriate size subwoofer?

I have the stealth box and I love it. Installed myself, not hard at all.
