check your build date on the inside of the drivers door. I had one of the techs print off all the tsb updates that were done to the vehicle I am getting.

Took my wk2 in today for first oil change and I got it back and the rapid response 11-038 was done (18-012-11a). I didn't even ask. I don't see any new stickers applied to my hood or by the fuse box. It does feel different in the way it shifts.

Is there a web site where you can check the RRTs and TSBs applied to your vehicle?

Not accessible to the general public or owners AFAIK. A dealer or a wizard like Milous can access the info.

Re: Attention WK2 3.6L owners - New TSB for Shudder, harsh shifts, performance and mo

#1 So glad to have found this forum. Just purchased my JGC 30 days ago!!

#2 I've only driven my jeep about 9 times as I've been on the road wayyyy more than expected. But am experiencing this problem to a T. I already took it into the dealership and they said they couldn't find any "documentation" on the issue, but that they did a reset. I did notice a sticker saying that it had the 11-038 update done when I took it in. However, there is no noticeable difference. I have a build date of 1-11. Has anyone figured out what can be done next?

Sometimes I lightly press on the gas, it revs like crazy and then jumps. Other times I can mash on that gas and it goes no where. Most of the time it's just "clunky" like it can't find the right gear. Not smooth, very sloppy. Soooo frustrating.

I purchased my current vehicle after driving another Jeep for an entire weekend (fell in love). I just wanted a different color and the X package. Now I get to deal with this. Not to mention my interior cabin lights do not work, my breaks squeak, one of the vents is broken and there is a high pitched whine coming from the passenger side (not the speaker), more electrical near the window shade.

I am in the middle of sending a lovely note to my dealer...

What the dealer applied to your Jeep was RRT 11-038, which is another name for the TSB 18-012-11a for throttle and transmission control adjustments for the V6 engine. You can see the TSB and equivalent RRT numbers on the wk2jeeps site maintained by Milous. Here's the link:
http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_tsb.htm#TIPS

I had that TSB applied and it made a huge improvement, and I now have none of the problems you are still reporting. Regardless of the label I would say you should give the dealer a chance to reapply the flash module updates or otherwise find out why the updates did not take.

You may have to take a tech on a test drive to demo how the performance is still not good. Otherwise, you could try another dealer.

One other thing: make sure that the ESC TSB has also been applied (18-001-11). It was only released on January 8th, so your vehicle may not have it from the factory. This one has a more subtle effect, but also helps with throttle response. Dealers seem to have been applying this one fairly routinely, since it was issued to improve emergency handling found by Consumer Reports during their road tests.

Good luck!

Re: Attention WK2 3.6L owners - New TSB for Shudder, harsh shifts, performance and mo

I bought my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee new in September. On the highway it is running like a champ. I found it to be choppy in city driving....seems to throttle or shift down when my foot comes off pedal. Not a huge issue but I find when I turn off the ESC it is very smooth in city driving. So should I just keep the ESC off or should I have the Jeep folks take a look? I drove a 96 Jeep Cherokee for 15 years before this...thanks.

PS- I have the 3.6L and it was built in Oct 2010. I found out when I registered this car it was originally sold to a dealer in New Hampshire and then was sent to Massachusetts in July which is when I first saw it.

Having ESC off is not a good idea. You need to have this TSB done.

Re: Attention WK2 3.6L owners - New TSB for Shudder, harsh shifts, performance and mo

Thanks Joe....I am going to get the dealer to do the TSB software upgrade. Funny thing is I turned the ESC off for about 10 miles. I have left it on since then and the low speed city driving isnt as choppy. Almost like it rebooted. Otherwise after 1200 miles the GC has been very good. My hometown on Cape Cod is about 110 miles from where I live now and I easily beat me record time coming back on my last trip with the new Jeep. I will update on what happens at the dealer. Thanks.

I know this is a bit old but my 2012 3.6 v6 does exactly the same thing.Taking off from the lights, same pace as traffic it will do 1,2 ok then drop into 3rd immediatly, i have to give it a boot to get it down a gear to maintain pace with traffic and most times it doesnt know what gear to use, have to think for it just to keep up with traffic flow, really knocks economy around also takes away the nice feel of the car. What makes it worse is the amount you have to press the accelerator to get anything out of the v6. The TSB list says 2012 models not affected by this TSB.Very unfortunate that such a otherwise great vehicle is let down by a dog of a tramsmission and such an unresponsive noisy engine, my 2000 model Explorer will outperform this with 250,000 klm on the clock and never have to use it manually.
