Auto Dimming Mirror, lack of movement

Just purchased the 2014 GC Limited. It only has the Driver Side Auto Dimming side mirror, the passenger side is normal. The passenger side mirror can rotate in all different directions, more than would be needed to successfully find your blind spot. My Driver side Auto Dimming mirror does not have as much movement and appears to be hanging when trying to rotate Left and Up. Meaning that I cannot rotate it enough to find my blind spot. I can see my two door handles without much effort, which means it can't rotate out enough.

I did the night drop off and tried to explain it in writing to the dealership (probably just as confusing as above). And they didn't seem to think anything was wrong. They said since they are two different types of mirrors, they may be rotating different. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this an issue with the mirror or is that a true statement, that they are different? Thanks!

Re: Auto Dimming Mirror, lack of movement

I have Auto Dimming mirrors on both sides and I can assure you that I can position both to take care of blind spots. I use the generally accepted method of seeing the door handles only when (1) leaning right over the center console towards the passenger side (2) leaning left and touching with my head the driver's side window.

Remember also the passenger side mirror is convex (curved) allowing for a bigger field of vision for the same range of motion. That doesn;t mean that ice/twig/dirt may not have wedged itself behind the driver's side mirror, limiting its range of motion or the mechanism itself is faulty.

Re: Auto Dimming Mirror, lack of movement

One thing I learned a long time ago is that, if you have a problem that needs an explanation, you need to talk face to face with the tech at the vehicle. In your case, the mirror might move enough for one person's seat position, but not yours. So it seems ok to that other person.

And, for something like this, I would suggest testing some other Jeeps on the lot with the same setup. If you can get them to adjust properly for you, then the issue is with your vehicle and you can prove it.

That said, ever since I got my first suv in '87, it took a friend's advice and put a small spot mirror on the lower, right side of the drivers mirror. That is not where you typically see them, but it really works. I can see a vehicle in that little mirror all the way up until I can look to my left and see the other driver. A $0.99 investment might be worth a try, even if they do get the power mirror fixed.

Good Luck

Re: Auto Dimming Mirror, lack of movement

+1 - I'd just ask to try out another Jeep real quickly. That'll tell you pretty quickly if there is something up with yours and if there is you should be able to demonstrate it to them pretty quickly.

That's def a tough one to describe for the tech.

Thanks guys! Sounds like you guys understood what I was trying to say, and thought that it didn't sound right. I will go in there and try out another Jeep and then speak face to face.

And both can be adjusted enough to see door handles easily.
