My car has the roof screen for the back seats (VES) and I noticed that when the screen is all the way down, the mirrors (including the external ones) all get too dark at night.
I wonder why that happen, since I have to open the tinted windows to use them. Is that a fault?
Edit: Or I can turn off the dimming button, of course.
I think that the auto dimming feature in all 3 mirrors are controlled by a single sensor in the center rear view mirror. Perhaps the video screen puts out enough light that the sensor thinks someone with bright lights is behind you. Or perhaps when the screen is all of the way down the back side lines up with the sensor and the sensor sees the off white color of the back side of the screen and thinks it's a headlight from a car behind you.
I have just noticed that when the screen is down, there is a little light (an infrared maybe) on the back of the roof screen that lits up and makes the mirrors to dim.
I just can´t understand why does that happen, since it can be dangerous that I can not see anything on the side mirrors at night.
