The ONLY time it has worked is when I was driving down a road with overhanging trees. I have driven out in the country for a few hours without oncoming cars and they never turned on. I can understand that in the city they may not turn on due to street lights etc, but don't understand why it wouldn't turn on while on pitch black roads outside of town.
As for the manual all I can recall is that you must be driving over 20mph not sure if there is anything else other than turning it on in the system controls and putting the headlight switch in the high beam position?
Here's my response in that other thread, with a snippet from the manual.
Like Snuke says, you probably don't have the switch set to "auto". They work incredibly well. They're good at differentiating between car lights and reflections, but not perfect. It also doesn't "anticipate". The sensor has to "see" the lights come all the way over the top of the hill, for example, whereas a human can see the light w/o needing to see the lights, if you know what I mean, and dim the lights a little sooner.
Sounds like a visit to your friendly neighborhood Jeep dealer is in your future. If you've followed all the directions from my link and they're not working, then you have a problem probably with one of the sensors.
Only thing I would mention is make sure the indicator paddle is pushed forward. Even though you have the computer setting for auto lights, having the paddle not pushed forward will deactivate the option. Hope that helps
Bumping this thread back to life to see if anyone else is having issues. The auto high beams worked great for a long time after buying the Jeep. Recently, they haven't been working at all. The option is checked in Uconnect, lights are on Auto, and the stalk is pushed forward. I don't get the memo in the Evic that says "auto high beams enabled" anymore. I can't imagine there is anything on the glass in front of the sensor, as we've been having a lot of rain so the wipers would have cleaned that pretty well.
I did have the Jeep at the dealer a while back to replace a few lifters. I told them not to do the shifter recall and I doubt they flashed the vehicle for any updates since I was past the 3/36 warranty and only on the drivetrain warranty. That's the only thing I can think of that would have messed with the programming. Think the sensor would just die?
There are flashes that fall under the powertrain warranty, so it is possible the dealership did an update for you, but it should be on your invoice. If you decide to go back to the dealership to have them check this out, let us know--we can reach out if you want us to.
The above procedure may do the trick. I was having a similar issue to you with them not coming on when they should. I unchecked auto head lights then rechecked the box and it's been working correctly since. You may want to try that first.

Jump forward three years and my 2015 Diesel Laredo has developed the same fault. Was working perfectly for the last 112,000 km and half way through a long 600 km night drive a couple of nights ago they stopped returning to hi beam after a car passed. Went out tonight and they were working again for about 2 km then stopped working again. I understand the correct parameters to have them operating, but there is definitely an intermittent gremlin in the system. Anyone else with a home DIY easy fix?
