Auto Wipe at Start Up?

Got my windshield wipers set to the "rain sensing auto" mode. I've noticed that every once in a while, when I start the vehicle, the wipers will wipe "ONCE" and then operate normally, even when the windshield is dry. Anyone else experience this?

On my WK it happens once in awhile. Maybe the WK2 has the same gremlin…

Yeah I gotta tell ya, I think getting all this technology to work perfectly is an impossible task.

Re: Auto Wipe at Start Up?

The rain sensing depends on the internal reflection of the glass changing when there are water droplets on the outside of the glass. The internal reflection can also change when there is dirt on the windshield.

Re: Auto Wipe at Start Up?

If you keep the switch off it shouldn't come on unless there is water present. Mine has only done it when the manual switch on the controler is also on and there was a little water on the windshield. The auto wipe will over ride the manual switch if its on or off at start up if water is present. In auto mode with the manual switch in the off position and the windshield is dry mine has never came on.

Re: Auto Wipe at Start Up?

My auto wipers swipe rocks away before they hit the windshield. Works great! j/k

Dust/dirt will trigger them though, as has been mentioned.

Re: Auto Wipe at Start Up?

I keep mine on auto all the time with no problem at startup. If your windshield isn't dirty then there is a problem that needs to be looked at.
