Average of days for side collision repairs

Hi,

I got my jeep last year and unfortunately that we got a collison accident on December 30 2014 when we were driving up to Maine for vacation... So, my wife and I decided to tow it to jeep dealership in Webster, Maine. 4.8 stars reviews...

On next day, adjusters came and listed all damages and gave us how many days repair... 21 days with 12k worth of damages.

So, one week later, I checked up on them, they replied with some picture progression of jeep repairing. I asked them when can we able to pick it up? They said possibly end of January, which we were okay with it... Then later in end of January, got call, that jeep wouldn't be ready til February because of one part was back-ordered for 2-3 weeks which got me irritated. So, I called Chrysler, they tried their best and got part on February 23rd or so. So, I waited for 2 weeks and decided to check up with them, turned out that Steve (man who works in dealership collision center) was on vacation for 2 weeks... Which his men at dealership haven't worked or given any tasks from Steve... Which jeep was pretty sleeping for 2 weeks wasted... I got irritated and called Steve why didn't any of his men work on jeep while he was out but turned out that one mechanic walked/quitted on him. So, Steve told us that jeep will be ready on March 27th for sure. So, we decided to reserve the hotel, rental car and etc to pick up the jeep. I called but found out that Steve was fired and jeep won't be ready til first week of April. I contacted Chrysler and they said sorry and nothing they can do about it? I told them that we wasted whole 3 months on jeep payments and insurance payments.

So, I wonder about side collision... Really that long? I d accept if it's 1 or 1.5 months but 3 months and still counting?!?

What would you guys do if you were in my shoe?

Thanks

Many things can delay a accident repair. The insurance company starts out by low balling the repair by not writing all the damage because its not seen. So the shop rips it apart only to uncover more damage, then they have to call the adjuster to show them to authorize the repair. All this adds delays and puts you out of the schedule. Parts get ordered when they are approved and when they show up your back on the schedule.
All this time other jobs come in and go through the same process.
The other thing it could be is the body shop is just a bad shop, hard to say.

Just to add to this, make sure you get payment for diminished value. Once you decide to sell or trade in the car any buyer or even the dealer you trade it to will run a car fax and it will show major repairs, this will drop the value of your Jeep a lot. Many private buyers will not buy it now.

Sounds like a combination of bad body shop management and parts backorder. Neither one is within your control. Rental car should be provided and covered by the insurance company and they will not want to pay out for that long so you can bet they will be calling the shop also.

A good body shop will do its best to get all the parts available before they have you bring in your vehicle. If this is possible, a week is about typical.
[I don't have your experience, but I did have an ex-wife who probably kept you employed all by herself].

Unfortunately sometimes once the shop gets in there, they do discover other damage. Here again a really good shop would know the damage type and expect that things they can't see could also need new parts.

I'd probably avoid the OPs shop like the plague in the future--that type of turnover is usually a sign of really bad management somewhere in the food chain and tends to result in less than perfect repairs.

Good luck...

You guys are really nice.

Personally, to me, it sounds like Benny Hill is running that shop.

Actually, scratch that....if it were Benny Hill, they'd be running at twice the speed and be done faster...

Now that I think about it, Gilligan just dropped a load of coconuts on the Skipper during his nap, and decided to paddle off the island when he got hit with his hat. Meanwhile, the professor is trying out for the Harlem Globetrotters...
