Re: Backup camera video

Interesting. I noticed this issue since the morning after I picked up the vehicle. It's an intermittent judder on the video and it seems especially prone to motion artifacts for moving objects. I rarely notice it happening when the background is less cluttered.

I just presumed it was related to the cross-path detection algorithm, especially because vehicles moving across my path seem to be skipping at different rates than the tearing video. Basically it looks like they "leapfrog" across the screen.

I think the analogies about it looking like juddery, frame-skipping dial-up video streaming are apt, and I believe that's the term I used when filling out the Jeep survey. The system is usable, but it just looks shoddily programmed compared to the smooth backup camera video I saw in the 2013 JGC Limited I rented last summer.

Based on the anecdotes of others in this thread, I am applying the 13.48.3 update again to see if it makes a difference.

Is that the Firmware that you were already on? If so then why not update to 13.51.1

Yes, that's the firmware I was on.

Thanks for letting me know about the later version, but I will wait until it is officially released before loading it. I went to the uConnect site this evening and they were still pushing 13.48.3.

My bad, you're in the US, you have the latest firmware.
The one I posted is export, forgot which camera thread I was in.

Today I downloaded 13.48.3.. I was on same version with jerky video. Performed software replacement. Same jerky video...

I'll do it again but frankly, performing a software install many times with an expectation of different results is bad.. If it does clear it up, what is that saying about the code and or the hardware.

Good outcome.. Nothing seems screwed up

Will report in later when I try again....

Same here. Hope they fix this in an update. The juddery backup camera is "tolerably bad", but it's just one of those things that reflects poorly on the fit & finish. I also have to be much more hesitant about driving in reverse because I must pause at several stages to allow the scene to stabilize so I can ensure I have seen everything before proceeding further.

This issue wasn't present in the 2013 Limited I drove, which doesn't say much for the year-on-year improvement.

Any updates on the video after reloading the software. This would be after a few days.

Fully agree road kill....

Paradiso.. Reloaded again.. No difference...

It's going in within a week... I doubt the cracker jacks at the dealer will do anything...

Started two versions ago... But I also have a new radio.

Re: Backup camera video

Reloading the software had zero effect, and that is actually a relief.

As jeepman pointed out, having different results from reloading the software would be disturbing. The last thing I need is to wonder whether a software update "loaded correctly". How would you know if it were right?

So, it sucked before the reload, and it sucked exactly the same way afterward.

I don't suggest anyone else try reloading the software because this will just lead to rumors in an echo chamber future where people suggest trying multiple software reloads and other magical incantations that have zero effect. "Did you try reloading during a full moon with a toad sitting on the passenger seat while holding the key fob inverted in your left hand? No? Well, of *course* that's your problem... look at all these posts that agree with me!"

This problem is caused by a flaw in the software. Reloading flawed software results in the same flaw being exhibited. Film at 11.

Honestly, I haven't even taken the vehicle in.

I am almost absolutely convinced this is a software issue. If they replace the radio and load the same software, I expect the same result. I didn't feel like trading my new radio for a warranty refurb unit when I expect the same results with the backup cam (i.e. frying pan vs. fire).

We will see what happens with the next version of uConnect.
