Bad experience, need to vent

So I took my two week old 2015 Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel to the dealership to finally get the the hitch installed that we agreed to on initial purchase. They couldn't do it the day of purchase because they had to order the package. Took it in yesterday as scheduled and was called about 2 hours after dropping it off, turns out they didn't have the hitch after all. They kept it overnight and performed the install today. (strike 1)

Went to pick it up today and noticed immediately that the plastic hitch fascia insert was gouged from install as well as my bumper next to it. Also the tabs along the bottom weren't seated. (strike 2)

Tested the 4 pin connector while I was waiting to talk to service manager about the problem with the install, no power to 4 pin or 7 pin connectors. (strike 3)

They after bringing it back inside I walked by the fuel door and notice the tell tale sign of crystallized DEF fluid all over the side of the Jeep (the DEF was to get filled as it wasn't filled upon initial vehicle delivery). There was DEF all the way up to the top of the rear window above the fuel door and down to tire and rim. It's like some took a bucket and just doused the side of the Jeep. Can't even fathom how that happened. They wiped it up but I had to spend 30 minutes when I got home getting the dried DEF fluid out of all the cracks and crevices on the side of the Jeep.

And on top of it all they made me buy the Jeep receiver plug that I saw on every other Jeep on the lot that had a tow package from the factory. Said they don't come that way, they install them and then add the $13 dollar cost to the vehicle.

Once again my feelings of not trusting anyone to do work for me are validated. If you want it done right, do it yourself. So angry...

Welcome to the way jeep dealers often operate. What i have found is that good jeep dealers service are few and far between. They are out there but very elusive creatures. Hit a bad one like that walk out the door and go to another because chances are the experiances wont get better at that one. I like my grand cherokee alot but the jeep dealer experiance is the worst of any manufactures i have dealt with.

Re: Bad experience, need to vent

Before you start looking for a new dealership (as you should), complain to the service manager about the DEF all over the side of your Jeep and I bet you'll get a free detail (worked for me)...and maybe even be reimbursed for the hitch plug.

Of course if you still get no satisfaction, then drop that dealership like a bad habit. Loss business is the only way these crappy dealerships will ever learn.

Re: Bad experience, need to vent

My local store is great, let me in shop area, I know the techs, two I trust.

One is a Jeeper, who has built a few rigs, the other one of the best trouble shooters on electrical, diesel, transmissions etc

I have an 03 PTGT, was time for a timing belt, WP etc about 1100 job, comment to him He says, oh jeesh your cam seal is leaking and the timing belt is ruined wink I had the extended warranty which was about to expire at 80 k and I got all the work, timing belt, accesory belts, tensioners, wpater pump cam and crank seals for 100$

Needles to say once in a while I slip them a 12 pack of Sam Adams!

Re: Bad experience, need to vent

Sorry to hear about your expereince & welcome to the club. Unfortunately what you desribe happens far too often with Jeep. I absolutely love my JGC but my local dealer leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to the service department. I wish there was more we could do as Jeep owners to resolve this issue other than take it to another dealer.......And yes I have already been down the path of notifying the dealer, service manager & Chrysler directly which did not help. Guess I needed to vent as well.

Typical... as for crystalized DEF. it dissolves in water- just rinse it down and it will disappear.

Re: Bad experience, need to vent

I had a very similar experiance when I had my 2011 trailer hitch installed. All the wiring was done wrong. I had to rewire it myself. Scratches to the bumper cover. Lesson learned, never go to that dealer (where i purchased the car) and if for some reason I ever get a new car again get it with the hitch installed at factory. Here are some of my photos. https://www.flickr.com/photos/compsc...7626387817280/
When I went to complain about the incorrect wiring the service manager shorted out my TIPM to the jumping grounding lug which caused a main fuse to need to be replaced. I was very very close to losing it.
I feel your pain.

Yeah, we really didn't want to buy it without the hitch. Other than that it was exactly what we wanted. Since they reassured is it would be the same as what would come from the factory we hesitantly agreed. Never again and I'm mad at myself most for not trusting my gut feeling.

It already has full size spare. Build sheet shows all the same options that come with tow package except for load leveling shocks and hitch.
