Re: Bad odor with heavy acceleration

I was out testing one and the salesman said it was some coating on the exhaust system which hasn't been burned off. It also happened on a cherokee I was looking at. Not sure if thats true but is a deal breaker if you guys with older cars are experiencing the same thing...

Re: Bad odor with heavy acceleration

I've been known to put my foot into it on occasion, well, more than occasionally, actually a lot of the time , and I have never had any smell in the cabin other than the leather upholstery.

Re: Bad odor with heavy acceleration

Do you regularly do a good underhood wash?
How gungy is your engine and engine compartment?

Older hot rods tended to sort of ooze oils, coolant, etc. into a fairly good anti-rust coating, and those would tend to be a bit aromatic when called upon to hot rod, which raises temperatures enough to make them smell.

You could check the britches of your passengers if you only get this with someone else in the vehicle.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, hydrogen sulfide is converted to sulfur dioxide (which is odorless) on the catalytic converted after combustion, but when you go full throttle there's too much fuel to be converted and this excess fuel burns the sulfide off without being converted into dioxide and throwing the smell.

Our engines suck way too much fuel when we go full throttle and smell last quite a while compared to other cars.

If you get the bad odor while coasting and not full throttle you may have a damaged catalytic converter or piping. Hope this helps. Cheers.
Sulfur dioxide is by no means odorless, and is roughly in the range of toxicity of hydrogen sulfide.

A properly running cat should not allow much of either out the exhaust, but both of those gases have extremely identifyable smells.

The OP mentioned a more metallic type smell I believe.

A dog tends to have a rawther noxious flatus, particularly if it is an egg-suckin dog.

Evolv0 is just really nice
Re: Bad odor with heavy acceleration

I have noticed this also since day 1 with my jeep, I always thought it was like a new car burning something off, to me it smells like burning oil.

That's funny! My dog only farts in the car while I'm gone for a few and I am welcomed back with his glorius output.

I have the same issue with my 2014 Hemi Summitt but to me it kinda smells like antifreeze. The engine temp is fine and no missing coolant. Very strange.

Re: Bad odor with heavy acceleration

I used to get that smell with my 2012. Would always manifest itself when I stepped hard on the gas. Went away eventually..... like a year or so later.
