Bad Shock

Rear shock is leaking and there is 600 backordered. Only 36,900 miles on it. YEA... Did some reading and found they are having problems with bad rear shocks. Is there any recalls on this problem. The dealer will not replace it.

I just had my rear right replaced yesterday
The dealership found it when fixing the rear shock mount issue

Re: Bad Shock

You only replaced the one? I have this thing that when one goes bad I have to replace both to equal the suspension out.

Re: Bad Shock

I'm pretty sure that Jeep will treat a defective shock much the same way they treated all the defective brake rotors they installed between 93-02... it's a normal wear maintenance item and not covered.

Re: Bad Shock

I talked my dealer into splitting it 50 50... I called all the dealers in my state and nobody has them. They are backorder over 700 and no date of when they will have them. I ended up getting the last 2 from cherryhilldodgechryslerjeep for $63.12 per shock.

Re: Bad Shock

Yes they said 50 50 when I was going to buy them from them, but now that I bought them from someone else I'm hoping they will cover the install. I have to ask them tomorrow.

Re: Bad Shock

Ordered 2 shocks and one of them has some oil around where the piston goes in. I have not installed them yet. Is this just residual oil or is it leaking all ready. It was under the plastic cap that goes over the end where the piston goes in. The other one was clean no oil.

Re: Bad Shock

This is why the Mopar Lifetime Max Care Wrap Service Contract is a good purchase. It especially becomes more valuable after 36 months or 36,000 miles when the original warranty runs out. I just doubled checked and shocks are covered under that Service Contract as well as a rental car while they are installing them. If it were my Jeep with the 39,000 miles on it and with a broken shock, I would be bringing my Service Manager coffee and donuts and asking him to make a call to Chrysler for an exception on your original warranty. I have the Lifetime Service Contract on my new Jeep but before that I had a Monte Carlo SS that was out of warranty. The rotors had warped on it and thus ruined the brake pads. The Service Manger called GM even though it was out of warranty and told them in his opinion the rotors were defective to begin with. GM said no problem and authorized him to replace all 4 rotors, all 4 brake pad sets, as well as supply all of the labor at no cost to me.

Why do I think there are some missing pieces to that story?
