Question Black exterior door trim?

Hello folks,

I need some help, input, suggestions. The black trim of the driver door seems to have popped out and is not flush vertically with top piece. Not sure what its called but im referring to the black plastic or molding that divides the front and 2nd row windows(the glossy black). Ill take a picture when I get a chance but im sure you'll know what im referring to.

It looks like it may have unglued itself or atleast that was my first thought but when i look at it from the side it looks like it is attached to something underneath. When i try to push it back in it will go back but once i let it go it comes back out. Any ideas in what to do? Ive thought the dealer but dont want them to try to charge me an arm and a leg.

Has anyone had this issue before? I just got the overland 2 months ago and this snapped off. Not sure why this would happen.

Re: Black exterior door trim?

Take it to the dealer, it should be covered under warranty.

Ok, so just to follow up with you through this process.

about 2 weeks ago i went to dealer as mentioned by member who posted. Service tech advised they would need to order part after they checked and said the molding/trim was broken and to come back the following Monday.

My wife went Monday and told her the process would take about 2 hrs to complete. Long story short, was not convenient for her so she left. I scheduled appointment for this Saturday and went in. I got there before they opened Saturday morning. Left dealer around 8am. Service tech tells me they have to get through all the oil changes first and then they would get around to mine(Warranty Work).

I decided to call them at 12:30pm to check status. Service tech says "i'm sorry man but they still haven't gotten around to doing the molding". At this point im like WTF? Reall? My truck's been there for 4 hrs. Tech says we'll get on it right away and i'll call you back once ready. Sure enough about an hr later i get the call and it all done.

When i arrived to pick up i checked and noticed they did repair but i can tell the plastic piece does not sit flush! I mean i guess its not that obvious but i'm concerned if a washing towel passes that area it may get stuck and if it gets stuck the human reaction will be to yank it and piece may break again. I left dealer and i mean its warranty work, so if it happens again i will just have to go back to have them fix it again but will make sure they do a better job.

Re: Black exterior door trim?

I had the same piece replaced about 2 weeks ago.
It's been like that since I bought it but haven't had the chance to bring it in.

That's exactly how mine was before it was swapped.

Re: Black exterior door trim?

Thats crazy. I wonder why this happens. The quality of the part may blow.

Re: Black exterior door trim?

I just took delivery of my new GC and noticed the same issue on the rear doors. Both sides are affected in my case.

Bit annoyed that this does not get picked up at pre-delivery, but will pop by the dealer for them to inspect and order the parts to replace.
