Re: Blind Spot Detection System

So they replaced the module and I picked it up tonight. It seemed to be working fine for about 10 miles down the freeway, then came up with a 'blind spot unavailable , wipe rear fenders' error, along with both mirrors yellow triangles lit ( uuuhh, the fenders are pretty dam clean!). That went off after a few minutes, but now blind spot detector goes off for anything next to the Jeep,....telephone poles, bushes, parked cars. Uuughh. I'm going to try Milous's fix, and if that doesn't work, back to the dealer I go.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

Interesting. I learned a few things. While I do not have this issue, based on the screen shots provided, I am wondering if there is any way to set up UConnect to also display an alert on the EVIC whenever there is a detection, not just on the side mirrors.

Something like this, but only for the side with the detection:

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

That would be great if it could do that.

For mine it still comes and goes, if you hit a good enough pot hole or bump it will either work or go bad, When the wifes jeep goes in for inspection next week will have the dealer look into this one before we get off our warranty. Will keep you updated.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

My blind spot monitoring issue is weird because the system is always functioning properly at start up. It’s only after the GC has been running for a few minutes do I get the error. For instance, last night, we left a restaurant and got into the GC. I started it, and all systems were functioning. In fact, as I was attempting to back out of my parking spot, the system warned me that there was a car approaching (so the cross warning was working at that point). I pulled out onto the street and began driving and blind spot was working. But as is always the case, at some point shortly thereafter, the blind spot warning chimes in the EVIC and I no longer have functionality. The mirrors do not remain illuminated however. I also tested this in the driveway last weekend. I started the GC, and just waited. Sure enough, after around 5 or so minutes, the warning message appears in the EVIC and the system stops functioning. So the system does work fine initially, but something in the circuitry triggers the warning issue at some point and I lose it.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

RFF111, mine was doing the exact same thing when it first failed. They ended up replacing the drivers side module.
Of course it's still not working lol. I brought it backed the dealership last Friday, but it actually kind of started working ok (not randomly blinking, going on for no reason, etc), so they found no problem. However, after driving it all weekend, my drivers side Blind spot is still not working right. It usually doesn't respond at all to cars in the bind spot, and will turn on when cars are right next to me, side by side. Lol! I don't need an indicator to let me know someone is right next to me
It's almost like the sensor is mis-aimed, but I don't think they touched that when they replaced the module. I'll have to go back to them and see.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

UPDATE:

I just got back from the dealership. As you know, I started getting a BSM error message around 5 or 10 minutes after I would first start the GC. It would work fine initially, but after a few minutes the error message would pop up and I would lose all functionality. Note my mirrors did NOT stay illuminated solidly once the BSM error appeared. Anyway, I took it back to the dealer (again) this morning to check it out and they did find that the GC threw a code for a faulty module (which they told me they would have to order and install next week). They also flashed my GC for v.13.19 of UConnect (they also had a TSB for the steering column which they took care of). The interesting thing in all of this is that my BSM now works fine now! I had a 40 minute drive home and it worked flawlessly the entire time. I called the dealership back as I was driving home to tell them this and they seemed surprised, but insisted I had a bad module, but also acknowledged that perhaps the flashes they performed fixed it. My question is, did the update to UConnect fix the problem???? I hope Willx sees this and opines because it seems more than a coincidence that my BSM started working after they updated my UConnect.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

As it turns out, the BSM module they had replaced is actually in the rear fender, and my diagnosis that it was misaligned was correct. They used a camera to look behind my drivers side rear fender and found the clips were not secured properly (I guess there is a 'STAR' case regarding this issue). They took the fender piece it's secured behind off, clipped the module in properly, and my blind spot monitoring seems to work perfect now! Yeah!

It was a false alarm for me. My BSM worked perfectly on the way home from the dealership but hasn't worked since. I guess I'll be back at the dealership this week. Spocker, are you saying that the module is merely misaligned and that it's not faulty???

They did have to originally replace the module when it had a 'blind spot unavailable , service required' on my display. After they replaced it, it was acting erratically, going off for no reason and when cars were well beyond blind spot.

Have you tried turning it on/off in settings? Do the triangles blink in the side mirrors blink when you do?
