Blind Spot Detection System

Can anyone help me other than "Take it to the dealer!" on this issue. While drriving the system gave me a error and disabled then reset itself and no errors for a couple weeks. Then before leaving the parking lot just the other day it beeped then displayed that it was disabling itself again and I cannot get it to reset nor know where to look on the vehicle. It is the drivers side mirror that has the lit up triangle. Everything else works fine just would like to know what to look at if anything to see if I can fix it. Can I disconnect the battery and try to reset the computer?

Gary

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

I wouldn't disconnect the battery, that effects a lot of things. If you must, I'd rundown the fuse and pull it. The system uses side looking radar, and if you have anything covering or damage in the rear quarter panel/bumper area (drivers side), and sometimes towing, it could interfere with the operation. I think about the only other thing you can do is check the connections.

Mine has worked flawlessly for 25k miles now.

Oh I think someone posted awhile ago that some plug in USB phone chargers create a lot of interference that can cause havoc. Perhaps you have an interference source somewhere.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

Hi Gary,

Any excessive dirt build-up on the rear bumper fascia? I know it's pretty basic, but that's all I can think of.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

What's the actual error message on the EVIC.

Here's one message I read in the owners manual ( I don't have a clue as to what it means):

Astronomy Zone — System Temporarily Unavailable
When the vehicle enters this zone the blind spot system
will become temporarily unavailable and the EVIC will
display the message “ Blind spot system unavailable-
Astronomy zone”. The side mirrors LED’s will be lit up
and stay lit until the vehicle exits the zone.

Thanks for the link, ColdCase. I didn't even think to search the forum for that one.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

Very interesting, the previous thread linked mentioned a radio telescope in Hawaii and the OP is in Hawaii so that kind of would make sense. If that's the case then that would suck to pay for a feature you can't use.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

All good ideas and will not disconnect the battery. The fender/bumper is clean my wife gets mad when her car is dirty, if it was up to her it would sit in a museum somewhere and you could eat off of it after she cleans it.

Current message is that the system is unavailable. I will get a better discription once I get back to the room and off work here in aobut 2 hours. Thanks everyone!! Will keep you posted.

It has done this one other time and that was due to a vehicle sitting in my blindspot too long and the system deactivated itself, weird but that is what happened.

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

Ok so I checked it out and all the EVIC says is the BDS is unavailable and the drivers mirror triangle is light up. Guess it is going to get washed tomorrow then if that doesnt correct it time to go to the dealer. Any other suggestions?

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

Ok so get home from work and the wife is happy. She claims she fixed it and I asked how. She took the Jeep to the car was put in off road level II to lift it up then sprayed water up around the drivers side exhaust tip and the error is gone. Must have been a leaf or road grime. Who knows but all good now. Thanks everyone!!!!

Re: Blind Spot Detection System

I had the annoying pleasure of experiencing this all weekend. The blind spot alert was disabled more than working and I have had the truck a month. I wasn't anywhere new so frankly not sure what this astronomy zone is but frankly pissed me off. 54k truck and drove around with the annoying hazard light on driver mirror.
