That's how it starts. It is a bit bothersome the first Winter, then it seems gone unless you are blasting your AC, but the next Winter it seems unacceptable. It's a bearings problem where the cold temps reduce the gaps and any condensation getting it eats away at the roller bearings. I have a hot tub impeller motor that eats bearings, until I had them put a tight rubber gasket on the shaft nearest the electric engine. Any moisture that was from condensed moisture on the impeller that would get into the bearings and eventually they had to be pulled and rebuilt. At least I didn't have to replace the whole blower.
Same principle where the bearings are very intolerant of any water or moisture even in the gaseous forms that reconstitute inside the bearing eventually displacing lubricant and metal.
It could be better designed but they just haven't got around to it.
