I can go up and down the engine line all day, every engine will already have carbon deposits inside the exhaust manifolds.
Point taken about it not being the first run of the engine. Bad example on my part.

I've honestly never seen a new vehicle (operating normally) give off any blue smoke on startup. Ever. And I've started a lot of them -- and have seen a lot started...even from the vantage point of seeing the tailpipe.

Carbon deposits in the manifolds wouldn't get hot enough to smoke out in that first puff from the tailpipe on startup. They might after 10-15 seconds after startup...but not immediately (if that's what the OP is seeing--an immediate puff of smoke that goes away which is how I understood it).

I think perhaps it would be best to understand how much blue smoke the OP was seeing. A wisp followed by the normal water vapor output might be one thing. A rather large puff and I still believe that isn't normal. Unless you're a 5.7 sitting on an incline

Bill -- you're absolutely correct about the PCV system. But at fast idle (during startup) the PCV system SHOULD be mostly closed off by the valve. At the mileage of the OPs vehicle I wouldn't expect significant oil puddling in the intake which could also lead to a puff of blue smoke--unless the PCV system is open--which it shouldn't be.

I saw the video and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary, nothing worse than I see at work, and we ship them all day.

Now if I saw a *huge* cloud of smoke, I'd be concerned.

The first time I worked over there, that was the first question that I asked... everyone basically said the same thing... Engines burn oil when new, and sometimes you can see smoke come out of the tailpipe.

There you go OP Marlon sees 10s of thousands of new Jeeps a year and if he says its normal then its normal. Drive your Jeep and enjoy

I was thinking (out loud) about what oil the PCV system would have left in the manifold when the car was shut down

I'm not saying this is the cause, just asking if it could be.

Tens?

You mean hundreds of thousands.

Again, I don't have a clue why this happens, all I know is that this isn't anything out of the ordinary and it'll eventually go away. You should come to the plant... see how many do it there.

I just saw the actual video myself (it doesn't show up on the mobile app). I just read "plume" in the description and assumed we had a nice puff of drifting blue smoke (similar to what some of the 5.7s do on an incline). I'm not even sure that's true oil smoke coming out and is WAY too short in duration to be anything significant actually in the combustion chambers. That seemed to be more rich combustion related -- or even carbon in the exhaust like you said. Heh...nevermind.

I. Will. Pay. Attention. To. All. Information. Before. Opening. Fat. Opinionated. Mouth.

To the OP: You're fine.

LoL I stand corrected hundreds of thousands. That would be amazing to see the plant cranking out Jeeps like that. If I am ever up that way would like to see that.

1205 a day. 7 days a week. The LineŽ is actually about to start back up in 33 minutes. Add the numbers up.

Sometimes we run 2 shifts on Sundays, most times just one. This Sunday, just one. Last Sunday, 2.

Oh, and since we are on the subject, YOURS DID IT TOO BILL! Hahahaha.

Would have loved a photo of the first start. Maybe next time around.

It wasn't the FIRST start, more like maybe the 5th or 6th when I saw it puff its way over to the validation line. First time "I" saw it almost 100% completed, the engine had already been started at least once.
