Re: Brake Booster recall

I just looked over recall posted in the tsb area of wk2jeeps and what they have to do to put the foam shield around the booster, they basically disassemble the whole upper left side of the engine bay. Moving the air cleaner and power steering resourvar as well as messing with the brake lines and brake piston. There looks like a lot of opportunity for damage. Any one else have this worry?

Re: Brake Booster recall

After reading the following today, I may never buy another Jeep.

" DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Co (GM.N) has ordered Cadillac dealers to stop selling some versions of the CTS model-range because the automaker does not have a fix yet for cars recalled in late June over an issue where engines can be shut off if the driver's knee bumps the ignition key, the company said on Saturday."

I'm sure the author of the article must have meant Jeep.

Re: Brake Booster recall

I got the recall letter over a month ago, took my Jeep in the very next day. I was told they had to order parts and I was 16th on the list with them getting part once ever 9 days.

I have been having an intermittent brake light and occasionally have a rock hard brake pedal while driving. I explained this and they didn't have an answer. The brake light goes off after restarting the vehicle.

So today I start to leave work, pull up to the stop sign and I have almost no brakes!! The pedal went straight to the floor like there was no assist. The dealer is just around the corner so I stopped in to let them see it. Of course they had no one available so I had to wait. Once a tech was available he drove the Jeep and found that I wasn't exaggerating! He diagnosed it as a bad booster and let the service adviser know what he found. The SA didn't want to cover it under the recall and we had to pull out the recall notice to show him that this is one of the symptoms. They went to order the parts and the dealer connect system is down with no availability date. So now I have to drive an unsafe vehicle till they can get the parts available.

Sorry for the long post, I just had to vent!! Does anyone know what the wait time is for the booster??

Thanks,

Todd

Brake Booster recall

Christ mate I wouldn't drive that , what if you have complete brake failure and yourself or someone was seriously injured or worse killed , how would you forgive yourself . Mate surely these guys at jeep dealership that you had taken your car to have a "Duty Of Care" or the mechanic that tested it ? I'm gob smacked if the mechanic thought that it was bad they let you take the car away WOW .

Re: Brake Booster recall

@Kramer Nut: I have no idea how many miles you have on your vehicle but if you are under the original warranty it seems like you should be given a loaner until they can resolve this issue. Maybe you need to call Jeep Cares and explain your situation to them like you did to us.

It should be criminal to tell you to drive that vehicle in that condition.

It would also, most likely, be considered criminal to drive a car in that condition. God forbid somebody got hurt or killed in an accident. Sure, Chrysler would be brought in, but the driver has the ultimate responsibility.

While I think Jeep should supply a loaner, the Chrysler warranty does not provide one. Most manufacturers do, if not from day one, at least once a car needs to be held over night.

It's still a cold weather issue according to my local dealer.

That's true of the recall, but that doesn't preclude the possibility of having a brake failure unrelated to the recall. If the pedal is going to the floor, whatever the reason, the vehicle should be off the road.

Angry Re: Brake Booster recall

Ok so here's an update. Waited till 10am this morning for a phone call from the dealer regarding parts availability, no call so I called them. The never checked so they had to call me back. 20 minutes later they tell me it's a "National Backorder" and there is no ETA for the parts. I explained that the vehicle has virtually no brakes and they said that there was nothing they could do for me. He said I could call the 800 number on the recall notice. So that's what I did. The girl I talked to was very nice and called the dealer to verify that they had done everything the could and let me know that she created a "Case Number" for me to expedite the parts, or basically see if any dealers had the parts and could ship them to my dealer. I again explained that the vehicle was dangerous to drive and it is my only means of travel but she explained that the "Case Manager" might be able to do something but she didn't have the authority. She also said it would take a day or two for them to contact me.

What a bunch of crap! It's not like I bought the cheapest car on the lot, the sticker on my JGC L was over $45k. I understand it's got 47k miles on it and is out of warranty but this isn't a warranty issue. Jeep should really care more!! I am going to give it till tomorrow afternoon and if I don't hear back I'm going to call the Recall line back! I'll let you know what happens.
