Brake Booster recall

Make sure you write down names and times of everyone you speak to and also ask for there job description , then ring your local Motor Vehicle Registry and tell them the problem and ask them to point you in the right direction on who to ring or go and see , and when you ring Jeep back tell them your taking there name down if there is going to be brake failure while driving there name is on the list . Just have to stress it enough that you can't drive the car like this and you need a courtesy car .

Do you have legal aid there ? ie free phone call to see what your rights are with a lawyer , I myself have done this plenty of times and it doesn't cost me a cent and they point you in the right direction on my rights and who to ring . I hope some of this helps you as I have done this before on other car problems if you want me to I will see my local jeep service manager as he's a personal friend and get more info on what to do ?

Re: Brake Booster recall

I feel you. That is the reason I finally just traded my 1 year old 48k Jeep in. Took a major loss but I could just no longer deal with Jeep and the service or lack of.
Their concern is the bottom line, not your safety.

Re: Brake Booster recall

Be sure to keep telling everybody that you are knowingly driving a dangerous vehicle. That way if you kill somebody the jury will have an easy time of convicting you.

Rent a car and see about recouping it. Even if it costs you money, it's better than a conviction. Or are the brakes not really as bad as you are leading us to believe?

So today I start to leave work, pull up to the stop sign and I have almost no brakes!! The pedal went straight to the floor like there was no assist. The dealer is just around the corner so I stopped in to let them see it. Of course they had no one available so I had to wait. Once a tech was available he drove the Jeep and found that I wasn't exaggerating! He diagnosed it as a bad booster and let the service adviser know what he found. The SA didn't want to cover it under the recall and we had to pull out the recall notice to show him that this is one of the symptoms. They went to order the parts and the dealer connect system is down with no availability date. So now I have to drive an unsafe vehicle till they can get the parts available.

Sorry for the long post, I just had to vent!! Does anyone know what the wait time is for the booster??

Thanks,

Todd
I can't believe they let you drive off. I would not drive it if I was you. What a bunch of morons.

While I think Jeep should supply a loaner, the Chrysler warranty does not provide one. Most manufacturers do, if not from day one, at least once a car needs to be held over night.

That is incorrect, per what Milous has posted on this forum.

Re: Brake Booster recall

Well I went to see the Jeep service centre here locally where I live and told of this blokes brake booster complaint and also rang the local Motor Vehicle Registry and told them the scenario , first the Jeeps service departments answer is : In no way would they give back a car like that in that condition, firstly it would be on the mechanics head and the service managers head to let that go out the door in case of a accident because it is deemed unroadworthy and can cause serious injury .

He also pointed out that the only time they would give the car back if the car WAS still drivable and NOT deemed that serious of brake failure and the problem could be fixed at a later date by ordering the parts and that the driver signed of on this when picking up the car after the inspection was carried out by the complaint of the driver . He also said his service department would not supply a loner because the car was out of warranty but would offer a free lift home lol .

The Motor Vehicle Registry well that was a lot of technical stuff about how far by law the brake pedal is aloud to travel until it was deemed unroadworthy and a whole bunch of other stuff , but basically he said if you have no brakes or your brake pedal touches the floor by law it will be deemed unroadworthy and be defected by a mechanic or police or local MVR. I told him about the Jeep recall on the brake booster he said by law Jeep have a "Duty Of Care" to correct the problem and at any time if the brakes fail Do Not attempt to drive the car contact Jeep to have the problem rectified and fixed , and if the Jeep service centre fail to do so they are the ones responsible under the criminal act (which I forgot what number he said ) if there is a accident or death caused by brake failure . There was a whole bunch of stuff this bloke said and some phone numbers as well.

So how bad are your brakes ? And all this info I mentioned is for Australia only as I no each country has different laws of course , so I'm not sure where you live or even what country you live in your profile doesn't say ?.. Also I'm not trying to be a No All or a Smartarse Im really just trying to help you out....

Re: Brake Booster recall

Thanks for the information, as far as how bad the brakes are here goes.
When you press down the pedal the first time you brake you feel like it's normal but the longer your foot is on the pedal the farther it goes. It doesn't go straight to the floor but as the air bleeds off within a matter of 2-3 seconds it is all the way to the bottom. At that point all you have is about 1 inch of brake pedal and it is all manual. You can stand on it with both feet and it won't stop any faster, all you get is a grinding noise which sounds like when the ABS kicks in, I hope it doesn't effect the braking system in any way. If someone pulled out in front of me or something else happened there is absolutely no way for the vehicle to stop in time. I'm getting ready to make another call to Jeep to see if they have any other information. Right now they are trying to find parts at other dealerships that they can ship to mine to make the repairs.

Brake Booster recall

Dude that's bad in my books , Jesus I wouldn't drive it ,you get yourself in one of those situations where something bad happens and you say to yourself god I wish I didn't drive the car today . Like I said I don't no how they let you take it home like that ? What mechanic or service manager would want criminal charges on there head if there is a serious or fatal accident , I really can't wrap my head around this .. They don't realise the consequence of their actions ? ... Anyway mate good luck and keep me informed on this .. And at the end of the day mate you have to use common sense .

Re: Brake Booster recall

Hopefully our brake Booster is being replaced today, while we are having our 2nd T.I.P.M. replaced. Dealer said no problem getting the parts in overnight for both issues.
Have had no brake problems that we can detect related to the brake booster so far, but might as well get it replaced sooner than later.

Update: Brake Booster parts on backorder, so we are on the list waiting, hope the brakes hold up for our next camping trip......

Re: Brake Booster recall

So my closest dealer, known as the worst dealer in the area, said all was well and shields were on backorder, but they would call when they came in. I am in the snow belt below Lake Ontario. Yet the never called, its been a couple of months. I decided I needed to drain and refill the radiator with coolant as its approaching 4 years, and a few towns away the dealer had a $29.99 special through the Jeep.cm site. They asked it I wanted a shield, as they had them in stock and I told them the bad dealer had not called me. Turns out my brake booster was cracked, corroded and weeping, so they replaced it and installed the shield as well. Now I know why everybody hates the bad dealer, besides their annoying sales teams.

Re: Brake Booster recall

Champaigneinhand, you're scaring me. I bought my Jeep at Canandaigua Chrysler Jeep and have received the run around posted several times above. Last time I called, I was told I was "next" and I'd receive a call scheduling my recall repairs - two weeks, no call.

The bad dealership you mentioned may be the one I mentioned above; if not, I'm designating CCJ as another bad dealer!
