Brake issue?

So I just had my brakes replaced by my local dealer after I purchased my used 2014 JGC Laredo. They replaced rotors, and calipers as they were bad before purchase.

So here's my problem...after the replacement I drove to work, and basically had no brakes...my brake light had turned on and it was extremely difficult to stop (I ended up driving in sport mode and just downshifted to slow down enough, kinda scary!) After I got to work I popped the hood thinking I was out of brake fluid but the levels were fine. I was told by a mechanic friend it could've been air in the lines that caused it. After sitting I drove home, brakes were fine and it hasn't happened since...my question is, is this a common problem? I read something about bad brake boosters which sounded similar, the pedal was hard to push felt like a lot of pressure. I was almost thinking that maybe I turned the vehicle off before putting it in park? I have done that before being new to push button so I'm still getting used to it. Just looking for opinions and seeing if anyone has had a problem like this. When the problem was happening I got a message saying "Service Electronic Braking System" but as I said the brakes have been find since this one instance and the code is no longer popping up?

Re: Brake issue?

Stiff pedal and lack of braking power along with the "BRAKE" warning lamp is definitely a sign of brake booster failure. But since they just swapped out the brake components, I wonder if something didn't get damaged. I've never had air in my brake lines so I'm unfamiliar with how that may affect braking.

The booster recall is in effect for life of the vehicle and results in a warranty replacement. Had it done on my '11 a few months ago.

Re: Brake issue?

Thanks for the reply! I was kind of leaning towards that after a little research but it's just odd that it turned off and I'm having no issues at the moment...I just wonder now if it can occur at any time. I've had the vehicle for almost a month and it has only happened the one time

*after a little review*

I looked up my VIN and found that the brake booster was fixed under the recall..when this incident happened it was cold outside so I'm wondering if the booster leaked again or maybe was damaged and froze up with cold temps...I'll update this after speaking with a service department.

I had the same problem, the Brake Booster was rusted on the inside. The outer shell looked like brand new.

Re: Brake issue?

Just to update, I brought my Jeep in to my local dealership and it was in fact the brake booster as I suspected....fixed under the recall with no problems! This is the 2nd time my vehicle has had this repaired...hopefully it's not an ongoing problem
