Brake pedal going to floor - air sound

My 2011 all of the sudden started having some brake issues. At 55K miles I figured it was just time to change the pads, but then noticed they are fine. I have to bottom out my brakes right now and its not safe. I have an appointment to get them looked at, but didnt want the dealer telling me it was 1 thing and come to find its not. When i completely press them to the floor, i can hear what sounds like an air leak, but only when completely depressed. Any ideas what this could be? First thoughts were either the master cylinder or brake booster, but the air sound has me thrown.

Evolv0 is just really nice
Re: Brake pedal going to floor - air sound

the air sound you are hearing inside the cabin is just the piston attached to the brake pedal .. Now the brake pedal going to the floor sounds like you have air in your system or a brake booster failure. but def take it to the dealer ASAP

If you open the hood and have someone step on the brakes, can you hear any vacuum leaks? Although my suspicion is something not sealing in the master cylinder, or a really big bubble in the brake lines.

Re: Brake pedal going to floor - air sound

Isn't there a recall possibly coming for brake issues?

Dealer says it's the brake booster. $550 repair.

Re: Brake pedal going to floor - air sound

Why would brake booster cause pedal to go to floor.

A failed/faulty booster would cause you to loose power brakes and pedal would be hard to push.

Booster might have a problem, but I suspect something else is wrong.

Unless break boosters aren't built like they used too.

Check link below.

Sounds more like master cylinder.

I suspect the air leak sound is from pedal not being in the normal operating position.

Re: Brake pedal going to floor - air sound

Maybe they didn't actually replace the booster and I was taken, but my brakes are working again.
