Brake rotors warping

Is it just me or does it seem like the brakes on the WK2 are not beefy enough for something this heavy? My brakes only have about 8000 miles on them and I already have pulsation. I partly blame this on the adaptive cruise, I think it can be a little too aggressive at highway speeds.

Re: Brake rotors warping

I had to change my rears at 21k. Fronts are holding up - knock on wood.

8k seems excesive. Maybe you have stuck caliper? Are your pads wearing evenly?

Re: Brake rotors warping

Granted I have never put a lot of miles on any one of my WK2's, but none of them have developed warped rotors. 2012 V6 9,000 miles, 2014 Summit V8 6,500 miles, and now 2015 HA V6 2,700 miles. All smooth as day. I also use adaptive cruise control DAILY and do not experience it being too aggressive on the brakes. Are you running OEM rotors? Lug nuts over tightened? DO you brake excessively hard on a regular basis? Cant think of anything else.

I honestly don't know if my rotors are OEM. I bought it used from a BMW dealer and they told me the brakes were brand new. I am sure the ACC system is not too aggressive considering it can only apply 25% braking power anyway. That part is probably in my head just because the steering wheel vibrates so much when the system does use the brakes. And no, i am super conscious not to brake too hard myself. I fried the rotors on a previous car one time and i definitely learned my lesson.

Re: Brake rotors warping

I have a little under 118k on my O-land. I still have not replaced a single brake part yet. No pads, rotors, etc ... owned since new. I have noticed that my front rotors are a little jumpy at high speed braking, and when I replace the brake pads, the front rotors are going along for the ride. That said, I think that the brakes are 'appropriately' powered for this vehicle - as I have hauled quite a bit with this truck and have been able to stop fast when needed.

Holy Engine and Aerodynamic Braking Smokes ! How do you even brake bro ? Do you find engine braking/downshifting and opening the doors and rear gate slows you down adequately?

i was thinking the same thing. Not sure how anyone would get even remotely close to that many miles without replacing pads and rotors at least twice. Especially since he said he hauls with it too.

Re: Brake rotors warping

I made the dealership change all pads and rotors on mine at 21k for the exact same problem. ( free of charge )

Re: Brake rotors warping

A lot of the time I think it is the pin heads that change or rotate the wheels. They don't go by the tightening pattern and usually make them too tight. If they are only using the air wrench and not a torque wrench they are doing it wrong. If I can't see what they are doing I loosen and retorque them when I get home.

Re: Brake rotors warping

Thank you to everyone for the replies. I ended up taking the Jeep to a mechanic I have used on previous cars for years. He told me that the pads on the outside of the front rotors are relatively new, while the pads on the inside of the front rotors are almost completely worn. Not sure how this happened but I will be giving the dealership I bought it from a call. Unfortunately I bought it used with 54,000 miles on it so there's no chance of a warranty claim. Hopefully I can get the dealer to do something since they told me I had "brand new" brakes when i bought it.
