May not be retracting fully. Typically there's enough wobble in the rotor to retract the pads back enough so they don't touch at all. A pad that lightly touches may produce a scraping noise. Wear indicators tend to be an annoying squeak.
One possibility if you mud/water above wheel level is something between the pad and the rotor.
Have you popped the front end into the air with wheels straight ahead and compared the left/right noise level by spinning the tire? A dental mirror and led light might help check the clearance and compare on both sides.
