Brakes Shudder

Why do Grand Cherokee brakes shudder when they get hot. This is my second Grand and they both do it. I know the rotors warp when they get hot but thats only when they are thin but my Overland only has 36,000 miles. I'm sure if I have them turned it will still happen. What can I do?

Re: Brakes Shudder

Find a decent set of aftermarket rotors... that's about all you can do.

I had the same problem with my '13 Overland. Took it down to the Smokies and warped them at 31,000 miles. I decided I had enough of them and I'm not going to turn them but got EBC Sport rotors instead and new Hawk HPS pads. Sad that for a vehicle of this price they did that but they are really cheap in my opinion.

What would be considered a decent set? I hope aftermarket will be better than OEM.

Re: Brakes Shudder

So are these EBC Sport rotors and Hawk HPS pads considered to be a good quality and a good choice for a replacement rotor and pad for the front and rear of my 2012 Overland? I see they have black or gold. Which one would be better?

Re: Brakes Shudder

Really depends on what look you want. I got the black which will turn to silver after the coating wears off. There is a brake forum which is where I got the information from other users. Not a whole lot out there in terms of rotors from what I've seen. EBC had the best reviews

Re: Brakes Shudder

Bumping an old thread. We've had our GC in three times in the last year to deal with the vibration on heavy braking. They've replaced rotors twice and turned them once and put new pads on just coming up on 36k miles and the wife is tired of dealing with this.

Has anyone had good experience with aftermarket? Obviously stock doesn't cut it for her driving style. She's always running late to appointments on and off the freeway so I guess we probably need something better. The dealer quoted $1075 for front and rear didn't indicate what brand.
