Brand new 2015 jeep, oil reset lights says "last reset 40631 mi"

Ive got 300 miles on my new rig. Flipping through all the dash settings today and on the oil life field I noticed something odd. Says
40631 mi since reset.

Am I working with a recycled cluster or sensor? or is this just some weird tech glitch? Either way, not a huge fan.

Re: Brand new 2015 jeep, oil reset lights says "last reset 40631 mi"

My 2014 says exact same mileage as OP, but when engine is OFF. I just did oil change and the reset but it STILL say "40,631 mi. since reset" when engine is off. Works properly while running. I was worried that some part of my car was swapped out on the dealer lot before I bought it. I was going to start a thread about this but was shocked to see this one. Anyone else have this?

Yes I noticed this on mine. Can't remember the exact reading, but was some random number. I think there is no need for concern.

Same with my 3.0. The oil temp gauge also reads full scale red with "--" as a temp reading when the engine is off. I think this is just what the software displays when it receives no data from the ECU. Probably gets some number that it applies an equation to to get you the miles since reset.

Joining the club, noticed this a while back. I think I saw a similar thing in the moparownerconnect.com site. Figured it was some error reads I didn't really concern me. This thread just proves it since there are others with the same read.

Late build 2014 Summit also does this exact same thing. Like metioned above I think its only if the vehicle is off. When its on I believe that number is correct. Not too worried about it, plus im sure once I reset it after my first oil change it'll be fine then. Weird nonetheless though :-)

No it doesn't reset after oil change/reset. At least mine didn't.

This is a back door mechanism that allows at first glance to see if the vehicle mileage has been tampered with or reset to display a different mileage on odometer than are actually on the vehicle.

Did you buy this new or used?

Indeed it is. A guy over at Wrangler forum noticed the same thing. He went to another guy that has in at the factory. The reading it displays with KOEO is 40631and is indicative of the time that the government contacted Willys Overland to build a light recon vehicle for the coming involvement (it wasn't IF but WHEN) in WW 2- the GPW we came to know as "Jeep" . The 40th year, 6th month, 31st day.

I really have no idea but that was an awesome story, eh?
