Brand new 2015 Overland--already aggravated!!

So today was my first day with my brand new 2015 Overland V6. I have some minor annoyances, some of which I'll call issues and others not so much. Anyway, here goes:

1. The transmission feels great overall, except on occasion when shifting from 1st gear into 2nd gear under very light throttle. It sometimes shifts harshly into 2nd gear, with a light "bang". It almost seems like the transmission is confused if it should stay in 1st or shift into 2nd, and then just bangs into 2nd at the last second, causing a harsh shift.

2. I didn't notice this on my test drive, but the white thread in the dash is a terrible idea. It reflects on the inside of the windshield and can be really annoying at times, as it reflects right onto the middle of the windshield, directly in my line of sight. I'd hate to do it, but a black Sharpie would take care of this annoyance. I'll have to see if I get used to it or not.

3. The headlights suck. Despite being HID projectors, they don't put out uniform light, but a rather splotchy light pattern on the road. In comparison, the HID projectors on my Audi are 100 times better. I've owned several different cars with HID projectors and these are by far the worst. Very disappointing.

4. The black vertical panel between the driver's door glass and the back door glass is sticking out and feels loose. If I press on it with my hand, it pushes back in and sticks for just a second, then pops out a bit. It's almost like it is held on with double-sided tape that didn't quite stick. On the passenger side of the vehicle, the panel is snug & flush and has no such issues.

5. The driver's door doesn't sit flush when closed. I think this is probably an easy fix, maybe just adjusting the latch a bit to pull the door in more tightly. As it is now, it sticks out just enough to be noticeable.

6. I read so much about how quickly the touchscreen responds, as you navigate through the various screens/modes. It does seem to respond quickly, but what's up with the lag on the presets? What I mean is this--I set my 12 presets on SiriusXM and then decided to scroll through them using the center button on the back of the steering wheel. Sometimes it works fine, other times it gets hung up and does nothing for several seconds. I had it on the first preset and then pressed the center button on the back of the steering wheel. Nothing. Pressed it again. Nothing. Waited a second and pressed it a third time. Nothing. A fourth time. Nothing. A fifth time. Nothing. Then all of the sudden, the radio jumped directly to my fifth preset. So it was recognizing the button presses, but just not responding to them.

Overall, I still like the Jeep. Out of these complaints, only the transmission has me concerned. I'm hoping that this can be fixed with a flash update, but I think I'll wait to see if it gets better as it breaks in.

Maybe you should drive it for a week or so. The tranny might improve, and you will hardly ever notice the stitching.

I agree. Isn't the tranny initially in some sort of "learning-mode"?

Re: Brand new 2015 Overland--already aggravated!!

The transmissions improve a lot over the first 500 miles. They really do.

The sticking should become a non-issue for you eventually.

I love my HID headlights and haven't had any issues or complaints whatsoever so dunno what your issue is.

A few fit and finish adjustments and you'll be good.

Enjoy it.....

I had the same issue with my shifting. It happened mainly in parking lots (at low speeds). It happened from new till 7k miles when the dealer decided to believe me and do a TCM relearn. This completely fixed the issue.

Completely agreed. I came from an '04 TSX and the spread was much better. Full even light throughout. In fact I just got home and was behind a TSX on the back country roads and couldn't help compare the better spread in front of him then mine.

Re: Brand new 2015 Overland--already aggravated!!

All common complaints for the WK2 V6 unfortunately.

At about 5,000 miles my 2014 V6 Overland 4x4 started downshifting rough into 1st when crawling to a stop, I've had to make minor adjustments to numerous interior & exterior pieces, I've updated the radio twice now with updates from Chrysler but some of the functions at times are still sluggish, I still have a slight steering wheel vibration at speeds above 60 mph, and most recently I've noticed paint defects (light spots about the size of a softball) on the hood and drivers door in certain light conditions.

It's an understatement, but Chrysler really needs to step up the quality aspect of the Grand Cherokee. I definitely expected more from a $45,000 vehicle.

Tell me more about this TCM relearn. What exactly do they do? How does it work? I drove around a parking lot today at low speed and can now make the transmission bang into 2nd gear at will. It just take the right combination of throttle and speed, right before the transmission shifts into 2nd gear. Other than the banging into 2nd gear, the transmission shifts perfectly....but it feels horrible during low speed maneuvering when it bangs that 2nd gear shift.

This was actually the 2nd time I took it in to them for the same problem. The first time they did the transmission relearn and it did it to them pulling out of the techs bay. They told me to wait until a new program upgrade came out. When I took it to them the 2nd time they had someone from Chrysler in the shop and told me they only did another relearn. Below is attached the repair order from the 2nd time. If you look at the first line (concern 51) you will see it. Looks like Chrysler paid them 1.9hrs (called units). On the 2nd attachment with the actual techs hours, you'll notice he clocked over 5.2 hrs to complete this. I also picked up my vehicle with an additional 140 miles on it. It seems like they did a relearn and then drove it a bunch. I know have close to 22k miles on it and shifts perfectly.

I had the same problem with the molding between the front and back door coming loose at the top. They did use double stick tape, because they replaced mine.
Good luck !!

Do you know if it is ONLY held on by double-sided tape? Or are there some kind of clips that hold it on? If I can pull it off myself and stick it back on with double-sided tape, I'd definitely do it myself. I have some kick ass 3M foam tape that is made for holding on side molding and I'm sure it would be more than up to the task of holding that panel on tight.

Re: Brand new 2015 Overland--already aggravated!!

I let them fix it, but the service guy said its on with double stick tape. I almost pulled my old one off because it was so loose.
