Brand new car dropping bolt?

Three days after I bought a JGC 2015 limited I found a shinny bolt on my garage floor. It is 1 3/4" long with a marking "K" on the head. Incidentally there is a drive belt chirp when the car is started but goes away after 1 min. Is it possible that a pulley is loose or misaligned because of the missing bolt? Should I be worried? I appreciate it if anyone can shed some light.

Doesnt look like a bolt used on a vehicle to me. You couldve picked it up in the road.

Re: Brand new car dropping bolt

Not from your rig. Too clean and shiny. Plus a bolt of that size would be torque sensitive on our rigs which means it would like have the factory color marker (purple, yellow, green, etc...) marks indicating it has been properly torqued/tightened.

Looks straight out of Home Depot hardware isle.

Belts sometimes make a little noise at startup, new rig settling in maybe. If it were loose pulley/tensioner it would not go away after a minute.

It looks like something that comes with some sort of put-it-together furniture or possibly a mechanical device, like a generator frame. A single letter indicates a part that needs to be installed in a certain place and order according to an instruction manual.

It's not from a place like the Home Depot because hardware store bolts from places like that would have a 3 letter code on them, like AXD or similar to identify it at the register.

Thanks for all the input. I did some search. It turns out that this is a SAE grade 2 serrated flange bolt, often used on truck and suv frames. The letter "K" indicates the manufacturer is Keystone Bolt Company.

Re: Brand new car dropping bolt

Maybe they dropped one and installed a second one. The one you found is the one that was loose and never installed?

That could well be the case. But I am not overly concerned even if one frame bolt is missing. Just pray that I never involve in an accident. I am happy as long as it's not a bolt holding down such things like head gasket, valve cover, or any of the pulleys/pulley brackets in the serpentine belt system. These missing bolts can wreak havoc down the road.

Thanks for your assuring words.

Re: Brand new car dropping bolt?

Ive never seen a bolt on vehicle ive owned with that polished finish. They seem to be a satin finish, greyed or black and i assume some sort of protective coating

Agreed. Also I only recall seeing grade 5 (three radial lines) or grade 8 (six radial lines) bolts when I looked into my car. But I am not an automobile engineer and cannot say for sure.
